just how good is this d.p.s. hi flow replacement filter on a stock 2006 air filter housing?????is it as good in filtering as a stock filter,,,say from baldwin,,,,, don't want to dust any cylinders,,, truck had an a f e housing and washable filter on it when i got it, now has factory box. any input will surely be appreciated ,, thanks.

I have NO idea what a "dps hi flow air filter" is.

That said there is literally nothing to improve on the already available, OEM upgraded (ie "double thick") Mopar air filter that simply slips right into your truck's oem air box.

If you want to save some money, Napa and Wix offer the same excellent filter at less cost then your local dealership. You can also find the same filters on amazon.

Lemme know I can dig up a part # for you if needed.

Well, on my 05 I ran 3 fuel filters, 2 oils filters, a coolant filter and a air filter in a modified air box.

The only filter that was the OEM one was the air filter. In the stock box nothing beats stock.

... it pulls the filter monitor up when i get on it ...

That's the cheesy filter minders fault, not the air filters fault.

LOL, but seriously!!!!

The double thick air filter is rated to hold OVER a pound of dust particles before it needs changing!!

The filter minders might be weak, but they don’t move with the OEM filter like they did with others.

I have seen video of a truck making over 500 hp with the factory filter.

I’ve done it myself on the dyno, and then turned it up higher a couple times on the street. No airflow issues.

You did that with the stock pump too didn't you?

I never had an issue with the filter minder on my 04 and always ran the MOPAR big filter
Since I went to the 4" the filterminder never budges. My friend's S&B move the filterminder everytime he uses it under load with his cabover on it. He's got 4.10's also.

Call me a cynic but I always read "super high flow" as "super high silicon" in an oil analysis. I run the Wix 49946 with 4" pleat and always had good numbers.[/QUOTE]

I just ran into a similar incident the other day I purchased a new air filter for my truck... the counter guy pulled up the 4" pleated filter NAPA 9946 I believe is the #? However I swapped it out for the 2" style. The thick filter did not seem to fit as it should.... was I just being too gentle and should've given it a good shove or do the air boxes differ across the 3rd gen? Did I screw up? I didn't even know the 4" was available lol.

I didn’t know they still made the 2” filter. It was superseded by the 4” one 10-12 years ago.. maybe more. It wasn’t long after I bought my 05, which was in 07.

All 3rd gen 5.9’s will fit the 4” filter.

All my comments above are on the 4”. The 2” filter had horrible restrictions for me.

I gotcha John, just been out of the loop I guess! I would think the 4" would flow better it just seemed to be a tight fit compared to the 2". Maybe I should give her another try? If you know what is the fleetguard PN for the 4"? my local Cummins shop always pulls the AF4177 idk just curious. I try to go fleetguard but if I can't make it to town I just go to the local NAPA (convenient).
