Jumper Packs

Does anyone have experience jumping the Cummins with a jumper pack? If so, what brand and what amount of power would be needed. Thanks

comrade - i have above jump pack. it works well. i have not tried a winter start on my cummins, but it has started my 01 cummins just fine in the summer... also starts my old plow truck on many occasions...cheers and good luck !

I bought a pair of schumacher jumpers a couple of years ago and used them about 4 or 5 times after sleeping in my truck and running a fan which ran the batteries down, they worked fine, one for each battery. Worked fine that is, until the last time I needed them and they had crapped out, batteries in them wouldn't take a charge anymore. IIRC, they were 800 peak amp rated and one wouldn't crank it, but two did.

I bought a replacement off amazon prime that is 2000 peak amp rated, haven't needed to use it yet, but hoping that single one with that high output will work in place of those two others.

And, schumacher's customer service SUCKS, called and emailed after their jumper's failed and they never contacted me back.

Anyway, whatever you go with, get the highest amp rating you can, diesel takes a lot to crank, that's why they have two batteries in them.

Yeah, NOCO is proven good.

This one starts the Cummins with disconnected battery's.

+1 on the Noco GB150... I have one and use it at least once a week starting various marine diesel engines from 3l to 8l so far so good... Built like a tank. Worth the $$.. Don't get some China junk that will burn your house down like a hoverboard... Be safe and don't cheap out.

But will they jump a dead diesel in cold weather?

I have a Snap on jump box. I have not had to use it on my 14 but I did use it to start my 98 a few times. Summer time, no problem. 10 degrees out....forget about it.

I have a Noco 4000amp that has started a dead Duramax in winter but I have not had to use it yet on my Cummins, If that wont start it then I dont know what would.

The few times I have had to jump start a Cummins in winter I do not cycle the grid heater, it takes too many amps and the engine will still start in 0 degrees just not happy about it but better then not starting at all.

I have the NOCO GB150 and very satisfied. Has started my 6.7 when batteries were too low to start the truck. However, it failed to start a Ford 6.o that had dead batteries, not just low. I also have a Jump-N-Carry, JNC660G that did start the Ford.

The Jump-N-Carry has a regular battery & is like jump-starting from another vehicle. The NOCO is digital and others like it depend on a highly charged small lithium battery that I believe/think requires at least 7-9 volts in the "dead" battery to "excite" it. If that is correct that is the reason it would not start the Ford's batteries, they must have had less than 7-9 volts left.

That's my only explanation as to why a 3000amp NOCO could not start the Ford but the 1700amp Jump-N-Carry could. Maybe someone knows if my theory is correct or not.

If you do a Google search you'll find a lot of very similar starters at a better price. Lowes sells that Schumacker less than 160.00

What means it's a generic China product sold under any kind of label?

I thought for sure I was going to need to test out my 2000 amp jumper today. Went to crank the truck after it had sat for about 4 weeks, this last week being the coldest week we've had here in southeast Texas in decades, and it cranked right up, unassisted, at the touch of the key.
Oh well, no test of the jumper, but plenty glad I didn't need it anyway!

Looks like the value on the NOCO not as good as it should be. Oh well....I bought the hard case anyway and it's worked for me so far but kind of disappointing in comparison to the others.

That's an interesting test. If you google for best jumpers none of his winners are listed and the NoCo comes in on top on nearly all of the "best" reports. I have used a few of the other brands but the NOCOs consistently has been the best.

I don't know where those "best" reports get generated but when they are written in Chinglish I always suspect it's just marketing BS from some guy overseas. As I understand it the farm guy doesn't get money from any of the stuff he tests. Yeah, my NOCO seems OK, but my new NOCO battery maintainer seems pretty suspect. If it starts out "flashing red", it stays on that setting. Next day if I unplug it and then plug it back in, its now "green" (charged) as it should be. But if I don't power it down and then back on it seems stuck. Not too impressed so far. My old school Battery Tenders have never let me down, but I believe those are all Chinese made now too and possibly less impressive if you read reviews. Guess I should check the Farm Guy for battery tenders next.
