Excellent advice! I will do it.
I can only imagine the rounded bolts were to help them get lined up with the flexplate. I have never done the install but if they would cut that corner I bet its a PITA.
My neck is starting to hurt just thinking about it. lol
Make sure both transmission dowels are in place. The snout of the converter, the hole in the center of the flex plate, and the transmission dowels all fit closely and you should be able to close the gap between the transmission and adapter by hand. If you have to use bolts to close the gap, something is not right. the torque converter bolts should line up. I have not had trouble starting them with everything aligned. Here is a good video.

Exactly that, you can also download the install manual for TC from BD Diesel that gives you all needed information.

Is this also a case where if you screw the tap or bolt in a tiny bit too far it deforms the TC on the inside and messes up the piston lock up surface?

remember AT’s ain’t my wheel or out house.

Not so much on a billet converter, but the stockers are well known for that.
Anyway we don't want the bolts bottom out in any case.

Have seen flexplate to converter bolts and threads strip many times. I always install all bolts finger tight, then spin motor once more to torque.

Update.
I ran a tap down all threads and and tried to bring it up to torque value with 2 holes stripping out. I threw a few heli coils in the holes and she torqued down nicely to spec with the new Goerend billet flexplate.
I got her all buttoned up today but ran out of time to get the fluids back in here. I am pretty confident she will hold after getting a new flexplate and all the TC bolts installed with lock tight. I fire her up and see what she does on friday when I get home off my 48 hr shift.
Thanks for the help guys.
