After the filter specs are noted... Did the filter survive the distance and was it defective to begin with? Who actually warranties the filter if it takes out your engine?

The 12/12 life recommendation from FRAM should be taken seriously. I have seen the orange "seal" on them crack all the way through on round air filters.

Last I checked Bosch was a relabeled Tear-O-Later made by Purolator. Do you cut them open and see if the media survived over 3000 miles without a hole torn in it? You would be better off with just a T-shirt stuffed in the filter can!

Thanks, everyone for your replies. I have ordered a Mopar filter from Amazon. It is a little confusing because it is described as for 2007-2012 and my truck is a 2016. But buyers say it is good up to 2018 and it seems to be the one I ordered three years ago. I will see when it arrives.

Late to the party but I’ll share my experience with a Fram air filter. I check the air filter fairly regularly, at least twice between oil changes. The OEM filter needed changing around 25,000. Went to Fram. At 45,000 on the odo, noted the strips of glue holdimg the pleats in place were disintegrating. Broken pieces of glue were laying in the bottom of the air box. Removed that Fram, vacuumed out the air box, replaced with Mopar and swore off Fram.

Anymore, I would buy OEM air/oil filters on anything that didn't have a well documented superior aftermarket offering.

Well, my OEM air filter when I changed it for the first time, the seal just fell apart like dust....just saying....

September build, changed the following July. If I recall, the filter had a May manufacture date...This was a big problem with the Jeeps, the filters literally fell apart...

Wow, how does Fram survive with all these intakes swallowing seal and filter debris? Might be seeing my rancher friend this Summer... and he drives in worst conditions lives down 13 mile dusty gravel road and drives on his ranch. Maybe I can casually bring it up in a conversation... or maybe I'll leave it alone. He likes brown gravy instead of cream gravy on his chicken fried steak, so he's wired differently.

Still, amazing to hear so many quality issues with Fram. Hadn't heard any issues since the early 2000s with oil filter glue breaking loose, blocking oil journals, and killing motors. Wow.

Makes me sleep better at night know my two Cummins are safe and well filtered.

Speaking of glue breaking loose... OEM 2008 Duramax filter at 57K miles in under 1 year. Later re-designed replacement filters have a plastic "X" as a media support in them.

I just ordered a Mopar air filter for my 3rd gen from Geno's, the shipping is reasonable. But I usually get something else too. They had a good price on the DEPO fog lights, much cheaper than Amazon, so the shipping didn't matter this time. If I'm not running OEM then the only other filter I will use is a AEM Dry type drop-in filter. Oiled filters are for dirtbikes and N/A engines.....not turbocharged engines. No gimmicky cone crap. The stock airbox can flow more than enough air that our engines want. No CAI needed these days.

I just ordered and received a new Mopar filter for my 18’ and it is like the one you show. I checked everywhere and 68517554AA is the new number that supersedes 53034051AB so I hope it works as well. FCA may have changed manufacturers since they are using the same filter for the 2500 gas burners.

I have 2 of the 5303-4051-AB filters in my cabinet since Genos sent me the wrong ones last time I ordered for the 04 and I they told me to kept them, sent me the correct part.. Fast-forward, now I have a 20 and they are the correct one

Id assume FCA did a cost reduction and since many times the drawings are supplier specific (ore exclusive) they had to create a new drawing (and P/N) for the new vendor(s)..... I highly doubt they made a "better" filter,... hopefully just same and just lower cost for them... I have always been happy with the sealing of the orange and yellow one, glad I have 2 on my shelf for the 20'. Hopefully when I end up needing one there will be some real time feedback on the new one.
