I've been waiting over 29 original years and 77,000 original miles to replace the Getrag in my '92 W250 Ext. Cab. I was a TDR member decades ago but drifted away. Does anyone know of a shop that can swap out the Getrag for something less defective - preferably a shop that takes an interest in workmanship? From day one when I drove it off the dealership lot the transmission sounded like it had a handful of sand mixed with the oil. It was replaced under Dodge factory warranty by a, "five star" dealership. No improvement. Rear main trans. bearing acquired a flat spot several years later and was repaired. The sandy sound more or less went away. Had twenty or so good years and then oil leakage became a problem. Local shop attempted repair. Bad idea! Shoulda let it leak. Now we're back to day one - déjà vue. The Getrag needs to go away permanently. I'm not up to the task of doing the work. My skill level leaves something to be desired and motivation in my, "golden years" isn't high enough to gitter done before I take a dirt nap which hopefully is a long way off but ya never know. I live in the high desert of southeastern California. Suggestions are welcome and thanks!!

I don't know any and I suspect it won't be cheap. I recall some members having good things to say about Sutherland diesel (Palmdale or Lancaster area) and they may know somebody if they don't do it themselves.

Roger that and appreciate the info. Thanks!

You should read all my posts on the Getrag. The getrag works fine if the bell housing is properly aligned and kept full of oil ! I have a 350 dually with 865k on it. I rebuilt the getrag twice. It still works fine ! I also designed and built a steel bell housing and adapted a spicer 5300 series 5 spd to it. It fit like a glove into a 2wd truck! . Call me at 615-336-4069 to discuss it further . I can fix your trans!
