I just got a call from Ram repair shop to tell me I may need to replace my air bag system on my 2015 2500. the code said compressor overheat, and although the system is working right now, it may give me trouble in the future, as in loss of pressure and a dropped rear end. Not what i wanted to hear! Repair estimate was 5-6k. I am wondering if anyone has removed their air bags and replaced them with the factory coil springs. My 2015 2500 with coils drove and rode fine, and I can install everything myself. Any ideas anyone? Long time TDR subscriber, first time blogger!

Yes you should be able to do that and disable the system with AlfaOBD. It's pretty common on the 1500's which are a much more troublesome system.

My 0.02 is that I would fix it thou, but try to do it yourself and then have the dealer calibrate it if needed.

I'm wondering about upper and lower bag verses spring mounts, I am sure they must be different. I just got the call this morning so haven't had time to look at the mounting brackets on my air bags and then go to the salvage yard and compare to a spring truck.

There is no possible way that the whole air bag system needs to be replaced.
Maybe the compressor, but nothing more.
What code was it posting?

And, the dealer is always the most expensive place for repairs, go to an independent shop.
No not everything needs replacing, yet, unless I let it go until the system loses its nitrogen, and then it it will drop. The tech was going to do a reflash to the truck, and said to drive it and see what happens. I am trying to be prepared for what might happen!

Didn't give me the code-I didn't ask.

No not yet. Tech said he would reflash first, and see what happens. I didn't get a code from them. I am just trying to be prepared for what might happen. And I do have a local shop I do trust. Thank's.

@hotflash1960 Do yourself a favor and get AlfaOBD software to read codes and adjust as needed! Plenty of support for Alfa on here and other forums. The only drawback to AlfaOBD is it's Android and Windows based only, no IOS support. Software and a Bluetooth MX+ OBD adapter run's around $150. I think you can due much better on that repair $ elsewhere! Just as Ltngdrvr suggests, start with compressor if bags are not leaking. Might be able to find a compressor in bone yard to start and see what happens. Crazy seeing the pricing since airbag add on kits around $1k. Good luck.

Thank's for the replies and the suggestions, but my question still is - can I remove the bags and replace them with factory coils?Thank's again.
