I have a new AEV winch bumper and a Warn 16.5ti-S I'm going to have installed. I was going to do it myself, but just don't have the time to deal with it.

Is there anything I should be aware of for the winch installation? Meaning, should I chat with the installers prior to install to ensure they're going to use the proper gauge wire, confirm how it'll be wired, etc. Also, is there any reason to have the winch powered through one of my factory aux switches (if possible)? Anything else I should be aware of prior to the install?

Thanks

If it were me I would supply the cable and specify where to get the hot and ground from.

I would use, and did on my truck, the aux switches to control a HD CD solenoid for the winch power. Warn sells one. The aux switches do not have enough power to power the winch directly.

Thanks for the info. Do you have a part number for the Warn winch HD CD solenoid?

Also, what gauge/type cable would you recommend and where did you get your hot and ground for your winch install?

Thanks

@Boaring1961 , I'd get some welding cable made up with proper ends and cable size needed for the inrush amp draw. Welding cable much more flexible for routing which will make a cleaner install. A local welding supply should be able to help you. I know that it'll cost a bit more, but look what that cable has to endure in its life! Good luck with the project!

Another item to be aware of is the front bumper and how the manufacturer has dealt with the cooling air going to the Turbo Intercooler. I put on a new HD bumper to replace the chome stock bumper and immediatly started getting a P-068A code ( intercooler efficency) I called the bumper firm and they (of course) knew nothing about that nor had they even heard of it, however in talking to a couple of local mechanics and owners, they had the issue come up in the Gen 4 Cummins trucks! I had to rework the bumper and fabricate on the bumper a closed passageway from bumper front to the intercooler and cut two new 6" holes in the front of the bumper in order to get enough cooling air to the intercooler! After doing this, the code never has appeared again and this was over a year ago!

New bumper and winch were installed the other day. Turned out well. Mechanic said there was enough wire with the winch to get all the way to the battery. My only issue, and it's not a big one, are the white sensors. They installed new black bezels, but the sensors are still white. Anyone ever put a light coat of paint on the sensors?

Light coat of salt my rear ones dont work quite right.

Joys of NE living.

I knocked off my license plate backing up into the garage and the salt covered sensors did not indicate properly. I was not paying attention either so 80% my fault 20% sensors were not working.

I would not paint them and would try to find some new take offset.

For example I took mine off since I have a lift gate bed so should be out there.

Looks great.

@Boaring1961 , Leave sensors as is! Nice little contrast to bumper! If you really want black, you'll have to get new sensors as others have stated, a light coating of anything throws them off! Overall, killer install and bull dog look! Hope you have a bag with a snatch block, tree strap and gloves for use with winch. Another useful thing would be a blanket to lay on winch line should it fail while in use! Seen a few windshields get broken when line fails. Enjoy that ride!

I also have the take off bumper and plastics from my 17 with no fog lamp holes or install PM if interested.
