NAV failure and radio replacement as the fix?

I came from a 98 24v and can say after 5+ years the difference in fuel mileage between the two is minimal. Towing the 14 does better in terms of efficiency. Power and comfort there is no comparison.

If you must idle due to the temps make sure to engage the high idle. Install that winter front. Plug in 1-2 hours prior to starting whenever possible even if in a garage, unless it is heated. A timer makes this task much more efficient vs plugging in all night or several hrs at a time. Electricity is cheaper than fuel!

I have NEVER warmed up an engine unless it was to make the wife happy. I am talking temps in the teens and up. Start truck and within a few seconds put it in gear and drive moderately. My oil analasys reports always come back good and suggest going even longer.

So it would will be very hard to to limit idle time in cold climates folks use there trucks to get warmed up. Dry they gloves out etc etc every rancher farmer and construction person rely heavily on a warm cab to go to So does fast idle really help . I would think that would make truck run cooler. And how do you turn on the fast idle anyway ?

i bought the locking caps from Genos but that lock type is a PITA. I swapped it out for the non locking cap, especially since fuel prices were so low. Now that prices are climbing in may be worth putting the locking caps back on and fussing with the lock.

To each their own on their idling view. I have stated it before but I will say again: At work we have had Ford, Chevy and Ram diesels. We have many and they are idled 8-12 hours a day. 120 degrees in the summer and low teens in the winter, year after year. I am not trying to sway anyone and my personal feeling is to not let my truck idle for long periods however based on what I have seen personally with our work trucks, I am not going to lose sleep over starting my truck in the morning and letting the seat and steering wheel warm up before I get in.

I have one. After couple of times it’s easy to use. High idle using the cruise control. Very cool I put a high idle kit on my 99 some 20 plus years ago. It connected to the cruise control also but had a separate button and rocker switch. It one time went wide open throttle in gear. Very dangerous I took it off I had a slide in camper and a sno trailer with two machines on it. I turned the key off and lucky it shut down Also threw it into neutral as we were headed toward a wall. Could have been very bad to ugly.

There is a difference in idling a warm engine and idling a cold engine to warm it up.

Manual fast idle is done by turning CC on and then pressing SET. You need to be in park with your foot of the brake. You can use ACCEL or DECEL to set the RPMS from 1100-1500 in 100 rpm increments.

I really like this simple MOPAR cap.

The book says engine wants to be at 180 f and that high idle will help with that.

Exactly why you want to run high idle at those cold temps. At idle they struggle to maintain temp not only in the engine but in the dpf. Again a winter front will help. Pressing the exhaust brake button in conjuction with high idle will further restrict the turbo and assist in maintaining heat.

Is it even possible to siphon diesel out of these newer truck tanks? I bought a locking Geno's cap, but I hated it and went back to an open neck.

Yes, it siphons the same as a you have to get the hose to the fuel which means you would hold the trap doors open with the hose.

I have the MOPAR cover for my truck and haven’t ever owned a locking fuel cap.

I’m not worried about what they are taking out at all but what they might be putting in my fuel tank. What would a bottle of coca cola do to your diesel fuel system. Or something else??.

Do the shutters block this much air flow? :)

The shutters are designed to reduce aero drag going down the road. Ram includes the winter fronts with their cold weather group, for good reason. I agree they are not needed as much as pre emission trucks but at -30 they absolutely make a difference, especially on an unloaded truck thats not towing anything.
