From the 2020 Owner's Manual:

Engine Oil Viscosity — Diesel Engine In ambient temperatures above 0°F (-18°C), we recommend you use SAE 10W-30 engine oil such as Mopar, Shell Rotella and Shell Rimula that meets FCA Material Standard MS-10902 and the API CK-4 engine oil category is required. Products meeting Cummins CES 20081 may also be used. The identification of these engine oils is typically located on the back of the oil container. In ambient temperatures below 0°F (-18°C), we recommend you use SAE 5W-40 synthetic engine oil such as Mopar, Shell Rotella and Shell Rimula that meets FCA Material Standard MS-10902 and the API CK-4 engine oil category is required.
CAUTION! Failure to use SAE 5W-40 synthetic engine oil in ambient temperatures below 0°F (-18°C) could result in severe engine damage.
Engine oil not designated by the FCA or Cummins Material Standards and API CK-4 should not be used, as engine and exhaust system durability may be compromised. The engine oil filler cap also shows the recommended engine oil viscosity for your engine. For information on engine oil filler cap location, refer to “Engine Compartment” in “Servicing And Maintenance” for further information. Synthetic Engine Oils You may use synthetic engine oils provided the recommended oil quality requirements are met, and the recommended maintenance intervals for oil and filter changes are followed. Synthetic engine oils which do not have both the engine oil certification mark and the correct SAE viscosity grade number should not be used.

Amsoil seems to have plenty of oil in stock. Shoot me a PM if you want any pricing info.

The 5w-40 Amsoil I just bought is on par with Rotella 5w-40 price wise.

It must carry the API CK4 or CES20086 in order to use it. I am not aware of any diesel 5w30 oil that meets either standard.
You'll have to go to 5w40 if no 10w30.

There are several 5w-30- Diesel oils that meet CK-4/CES20086. Amsoil DHD, Delo 400 XSP, and Rotella T6 come to mind. Thou there aren't any 5w-30's listed in the owners manual, but the owners manual also only "recommends". Likely not a big deal, but is it worth it? Not much gain winter wise.

Amsoil DHD does meet MS-10902 as well. Shell and Delo don't list it, but may be worth an email if you find that oil on the shelf.

So of those 3 the Amsoil seems the safest as it meets all the specs listed by Ram and is close to the recommended viscosity.

Interesting, the Amsoil DTT 10w-30 meets CES20086 and CK-4, but not MS10902. I may email Amsoil about that as MS10902 is the spec in the owners manual.

Good Info.

Also keep in mind that 5W30 and 10W30 are both 30W oils. The 5 and 10 only designate flow characteristics at very low temperatures. I would not have any reserve about using either AS LONG AS the oil meets the manufacturer specification. For me that would require that it is listed on the container, package, or specification sheet.

Well, duh! I think we just had this conversation....
Scroll down to my post....talk about one track mind today.

Its been a long week...my days have been starting at 130am.
That, and I've been studying ACEA 5w30's for my son's VW, those oils don't cross over to CES specifications too often.

And I'm sticking to it

Your RAM Dealer is also a resource for an oil change. Although I do not trust mine to use the proper viscosity for 2018 or it lost viscosity quickly in use... Maybe a shop, truck stop, or lube place you trust that gets oil in bulk can do an oil change for you. Because they have oil that you can't get to DIY.

Otherwise I am ready for the next oil change. The only trouble is an 6.7 Cummins oil Filter that AMSOIL wouldn't ship at the time I ordered the oil.

Amsoil emailed back stating that the spec was added on 4/9/21 and will be on the next revision of the data sheet.
