Gentlemen, I have a 13 3500 with Aisin auto. Is there a way to operate the e brake in 1st gear when going down steep grades loaded heavy? Mine will not engage when needed most ! , with possibly overheating the brakes a problem.
Thank you.

Are you engaging the Tow/Haul mode? When I've been towing my 1500 in TH mode, the exhaust brake has kept me were needed and if really steep grade, lock out gears by manually shifting into lower gears. I know mine is 68RFE but the Asian should work the same and better! TH mode and full exhaust brake with lock out on gears should solve issue. Good luck and be safe!

If the grade is to heavy - use low range then.
That's what I do all the time then.

EB is much better in low range at low speeds then in high range at low speed.

Low range is good to about 35mph*, use it if you need it.
Locking pattern is the same, 2nd upwards, speed of engagement is about 3 times lower then in high range.

*depending on the axle ratio.

At least on my 18 the EB still won't engage until above 20 mph, even in 4LO with a locked TQ converter. I've tried several times.

Lo range does provide more drag, and thus better downhill speed control when slow on loose surfaces.

Manually shifted into 1st and TH but no joy! did not shift into AWD tho maybe that would help ???

4WD, not AWD. I do really wish we had a full time xcase thou.

Gen3 in low range is similar, engages at about 15mph - but stays in all the way down to 8mph.
Or as long as the converter is locked, but that needs a mystery switch. Then it stays in until engine comes to idle speed.

yeah... I recall my 04 (NV5600/4:10RaR) would stay engaged all the way down it seems... havent really tried or needed it on my 20 yet.. Did save brakes for sure tho, I never in 100k miles put a set on it.

Yes my 05/NV5600 would hold the EB all the way down until I had to clutch. Much better braking at low speeds down steep hills.

I did the brakes around 120K only because the rear pins stuck and the rear pads didn’t wear evenly.
