I just got my 2020 3500 CCLB HO Aisin (59,800 miles) back yesterday, my injection pump literally died on Memorial Day in Wilkes Barre, PA headed back south to Virginia. I was towing my 20ft enclosed trailer, thankfully it was empty. Anyhow, I will try to detail what happened the whole way thru.
Was running about 65 MPH with the cruise on, around a slight bend, slight uphill, truck started slowing down, I thought I'd tripped the cruise. Pressed the go pedal and nothing. Immediately got it headed to the widest part of the shoulder. Truck idled for about 5 minutes on the shoulder, pushing the go pedal did nothing. Eventually it just died.
Anyhow, got it towed to Motorworld which was the closest dealer to me. They were closed so I was there first thing in the morning. They diagnosed it pretty quick, said it was the injection pump. They also said I got lucky, since I was the first truck brought in that week for a injection pump, so they would be able to order the parts on Thursday.
Anyhow, fast forward 3 weeks, they called and said it was done. Everything in my truck was replaced. Injection pump, Lift Pump, Tank (more on this later), injectors, filters, fuel lines, etc. I guess my truck was the first one they had seen that actually grenaded. They said they were able to replace others before this catastrophic failure occurred.
The tank part, I had the 55 gallon Titan Tank installed in my truck, about a month after I got the truck new. I was lucky working with the dealer, in that they charged me 1 hour of labor to clean my Titan tank. They were supposed to replace it with the stock tank, but parts being hard to get, they worked with me to get me back on the road. So A+ for working with the dealer.
Anyhow, the only thing I noticed on my ride home was it sounds like the new Injection Pump has a knocking sound. I can't hear it from the cab, but it is noticeable from outside the truck and it feels like it coming from injection pump when I put my hand on it. I don't think it's normal, but the truck runs and drives just the way it did before it died. Mileage is the same and power seems the same. When I get back home, I will take it to my local dealer and let them check it out to make sure the little knocking sound is supposed to be there, or fix it.
Hope this helps you all out. From speaking with them, I had quite alot of metal in my tank and my IP had literally split in two. Pretty harsh destruction. The funny part is, 30 seconds before it died I wouldn't have guessed anything was ever wrong with the truck it ran so strong and pulled so well.
