I just got my 2020 3500 CCLB HO Aisin (59,800 miles) back yesterday, my injection pump literally died on Memorial Day in Wilkes Barre, PA headed back south to Virginia. I was towing my 20ft enclosed trailer, thankfully it was empty. Anyhow, I will try to detail what happened the whole way thru.

Was running about 65 MPH with the cruise on, around a slight bend, slight uphill, truck started slowing down, I thought I'd tripped the cruise. Pressed the go pedal and nothing. Immediately got it headed to the widest part of the shoulder. Truck idled for about 5 minutes on the shoulder, pushing the go pedal did nothing. Eventually it just died.

Anyhow, got it towed to Motorworld which was the closest dealer to me. They were closed so I was there first thing in the morning. They diagnosed it pretty quick, said it was the injection pump. They also said I got lucky, since I was the first truck brought in that week for a injection pump, so they would be able to order the parts on Thursday.

Anyhow, fast forward 3 weeks, they called and said it was done. Everything in my truck was replaced. Injection pump, Lift Pump, Tank (more on this later), injectors, filters, fuel lines, etc. I guess my truck was the first one they had seen that actually grenaded. They said they were able to replace others before this catastrophic failure occurred.

The tank part, I had the 55 gallon Titan Tank installed in my truck, about a month after I got the truck new. I was lucky working with the dealer, in that they charged me 1 hour of labor to clean my Titan tank. They were supposed to replace it with the stock tank, but parts being hard to get, they worked with me to get me back on the road. So A+ for working with the dealer.

Anyhow, the only thing I noticed on my ride home was it sounds like the new Injection Pump has a knocking sound. I can't hear it from the cab, but it is noticeable from outside the truck and it feels like it coming from injection pump when I put my hand on it. I don't think it's normal, but the truck runs and drives just the way it did before it died. Mileage is the same and power seems the same. When I get back home, I will take it to my local dealer and let them check it out to make sure the little knocking sound is supposed to be there, or fix it.

Hope this helps you all out. From speaking with them, I had quite alot of metal in my tank and my IP had literally split in two. Pretty harsh destruction. The funny part is, 30 seconds before it died I wouldn't have guessed anything was ever wrong with the truck it ran so strong and pulled so well.

Maybe they didn't get the Fuel Injection Pump Phasing correct. Flushing the fuel tank appears to be allowed in the procedure. I'd change the filters after a couple tanks of fuel.

Thank you! I will drop it off and let them deal with it. It doesn't sound correct, but I can't remember my 14 having or not having that either.

I also have a 50 gallon tank they gave me since I already had the Titan in the truck and didn't wanna swap back. So if any of you all want a 50 gallon tank let me know.

Also, do any of you all know where to send the receipt to FCA for rental reimbursement? I had to get an Enterprise rental truck to handle trailer duties while my truck was being worked on.

Last I checked rentals are no longer covered under OEM warranty. :( Your optional MOPAR agreement may help.

Made appt for 7/11 at the local dealer, he said they'd done about 10 so far and are only scheduling 1 per week due to the techs not making anything doing the repair. He said it takes about 1/2 a day to do it. We'll see how it goes, I'm hopefull no issues as I have a camping trip set for the week after.

If they have done 10 and they can't make any money on it they are probably not the brightest technician in the world.

I agree with you completely and I am thinking about canceling.... What do you recommend, I value your opinion.

I will say, they had told me last week I had to bring the truck in to get an appt, . then yesterday when I took the truck in, they didn't even look at it.... So I guess they just wanted to "see" I had a 2019/20 truck to put me in que? They said they already had parts and would do it when I brought it in... I thought they had to look up the engine SER number or something to order but they did nothing. It is a really small dealership in Hillsborough NC that hasn't been around too long, I am just not sure which path to take as in my area of NC there seems not to be a whole lot of choices when it comes to technicians and I don't go to the dealer for anything so I have nothing to base it on... called my selling dealer yesterday and they said I had to bring the truck in just to get scheduled and then it would be Sept before they could do it. Maybe I should look farther like Raleigh or Durham, but cost of diesel to drive an hour or two....

@bcbender, If your "Spider Sense" is tingling, I'd find another dealer to do the work. Gut feeling makes me think twice on a lot of things! Just need to plan the drives to shop or explore to make it seem better with the $ of fuel! My truck probably thinks it's in time out since been driving the gasser the past few weeks doing errands and grocery runs. We're all feeling the fuel pains!

Ram gave the techs some extensive training on the recall. I wouldn't worry. If the tech did not attend the training I would find another dealer.

Two schools of thought, One the technician is slow and careful, the other, just not too bright. I would trust my gut. That being said, the recall isn't that complicated. It is pretty much remove the ECM bracket. power steering pump, and pump. reinstall with new parts.

I wanted to bring this back around to you all. I submitted my rental receipt to FCM in order to ask for Reimbursement for the truck I needed to get when my truck was in the shop. It was in the shop for 21 days and they have OK'ed me to get that back.

Dear Mr. Beretz,

Thank you for contacting RAM Customer Care. We are happy to assist you with regards to your concern. Your satisfaction is important to us!

We are pleased to inform you that we have approved a total reimbursement for the rental. It took many months for me to get reimbursement for trip interruption on Maxcare warranty but they finally came through. The smartest thing I did was send all the paperwork to them in writing with a return receipt. I still ended up having to also send everything electronically at the very end (just a delaying tactic), but by having the receipt signed by them at their end I had proof of when I submitted everything. Every time I would call I got a different person with a different story about why it was taking so long. They only allowed $1000 which did not come close to covering hotel and rental cars, but it was good enough I guess. That is really the only problem I ever had in 8 years of MaxCare warranty. Now I got another rear wheel bearing seal failing, A/C failing (bad valve and seals). I love my truck but compared to the many Japanese cars we have had, the number of mechanical and electronic failures has been pretty surprising. Oh well, you can't take your money with you.

Well, you can't say that anymore.
Yep, down to the details of where to place wiring harness cable ties.
Just so everyone is clear, there was no additional training provided beyond the recall steps which are very clear. Not sure where this info about training originated from but it is clearly false. There is a video "Recall Ready" that was produced that went over the exact steps to follow to complete the Ecodiesel recall. That training was produced because there were financial penalties for not following the process to the T.

The one part I wanna make sure people know is to try to get their money back if they do require a rental or hotel for getting stranded. The worst they can say is no, but it was worth the 10 minutes it took to send in the rental receipt.

Have you had a chance to take it back in? Pump timing was going to be my guess as well - they might have timed the pump, but not the engine to TDC prior to installing the new pump. The 3-rotor pump needs to match the firing of the engine.

Your '14 would have been timed from the factory...every 6.7L has been so.
