My sig truck (191k) for years would sometimes have a "CHONG" when idling after start-up, especially in cooler weather. I took it to be a sticking injector. That and the "lower lubricity" of fuel made me start using Power Service. Three years ago, the Greatest Injectors-Of-All-Time had a special, and I bit on a set of .5 injectors and tubes advertised as a good for towing. I didn't have them put in until last week (long story) when I had to have an injection pump leak fixed on my (pre Fiat) '97 5030 Ford New Holland. Lie-o-meter said 24 mpg driving the 55 miles to Myrtle Beach, coming home said 20. That was a lot of "gold dust" to lose 4 mpg! Where do I go from here? I'd put the old ones back in if it wasn't for the "CHONGER"! I feel like I poured clabbered milk on my Cheerios! Mark

It’s due to the different flow rates of the injectors, and your old injectors being worn out and flowing more so the ECM thought you were using less fuel.

You even said it yourself… lie-o-meter. Hand calc it. Never trust the overhead, they aren’t accurate or consistent.

I also highly doubt the driving conditions, average grade, etc are exactly the same both ways.

Agreed.. My 04 was never very consistent even with OEM injectors (hand calc'd was tho), also tail wind / head wind makes a huge difference and going to MB is basically all down hill, (at least from Raleigh, NC)

Personal experience, every year when I drive down to Charlotte, (from burlington NC) I get about 1~2 MPG better going than comming back.. again its driving down hill for about 90 mi..

I'd like to replace the injectors on my '05. Are you speaking of BB1.5's? I heard they're good for towing and better fuel economy over .1's. Just want to put good ones on now that this truck has 232k on Bosch originals. Also heard the BB1 remans are good quality?

Lordsman, they are BBI injectors. I hand calculated mileage and, since it didn't take but 9 gals to fill, it may not be exact. The overhead (lie-o-meter) showed 20 and that ended up being about right. With the old injectors, if I didn't do any "bads", I could get 23.2 overhead (19.3 actual). The lie-o-meter had been a pretty consistent liar at 16-17% high. The only problem: The truck has picked up an old habit it had when new. After cold start and driving "gently" for 5 miles, it starts surging and continues for 5-6 miles before it gradually goes away. It used to start surging well within a quarter mile every time! I've been kinda under the weather for the last few days and haven't driven it any. Thanks to Chopper John for 'splaining the ecm language! Mark
