Hello-I have developed a concerning clunk/popping type sound on my 2nd gen diesel 2500 4x4 6speed,
This seems to be trans/transfer case area and can only be duplicated on deceleration.
I noticed that the transfer case shifter moves forward when this happens (excessive movement).
No sound on acceleration only deceleration. Has anyone had this concern?
Your input is appreciated.

Movement like you have described could be caused by a broken engine or transmission / transfer case mount. Or, there could be something going on inside the transfer case.

But first, check for the obvious - is there anything heavy inside the truck bed or on the floor behind your seat that could be moving around while you are driving?

Have you checked the front driveshaft? Not sure which year truck you have but on models like my 2002, there is no CAD disconnect and the front driveshaft turns all the time. Could be an item to look at. Possibly a universal joint on the way out?

Thanks, I do see that the transmission mount is cracked I'll start there and see what happens.
