Moving from 98.5 to possibly 2016

Idle issues.

From where does yours draw air?
My ‘04 does so from the fenderwell.
Stays pretty clean. Texas caliche or not.

Cut the engine fan (HVAC to Off) on the worst.
Slow down.

The “Home Depot CAI” is a no-go for me.
The fenderwell is pretty good at having the dust drop out.
Investigate and maybe add some sealing.

.
It's a 2007. Stock filter.

There are two air filters from Genos that I believe will fit the 19-24 trucks. part numbers AF53034051AB ('19-'24) and AF68517554AA ('7.5-'18) I read somewhere that the 7554AA filter will throw codes on a '24 truck. Both are Mopar. Has anyone else heard this? I have a couple filters on the shelf that I had for my '17 before I sold it, and would like to be able to use them on my '24 if possible.

Only use AB filters on 19+ trucks.

Does the actual stock filter for a 2014 have the glue strips or no? I've been using WIX filters for my truck for a long time but it has never had glue strips. Now, I just bought a stock "Mopar" and its not the usual red gasket and yellow filter media of the old stockers I'm used to. It also has 3 glue strips so I'm wondering if this is a fake or the real deal?

I was sure surprised last fall when I pulled mine out also. 10k miles it had a lot of fuzzy stuff and plant matter in it. Way more dirty than I thought it would be

Turbo diesels pull in a LOT of air due to their design. I call them massive air vacuum cleaners.

My Kubota Turbo Diesel tractor has had it's air filter clogged with leaves and other debris within 10 hours of use during last fall. I check it often on that machine.

I've learned from operating heavy equipment for so many years you do the pre-check.

Oil, air filter, hydraulic oil, coolant, and fuel.

Many years ago, I had a VERY crappy foreman that was stingy on time, and if the machines weren't on and moving, the company was losing money. Well, he was bossing me around one morning and talked me on while getting on a hoe, and apparently it had a severe hydraulic leak from the previous day and I didn't get a chance to do my usual pre-check. I cranked it over and started using it. Within 20 minutes of digging I lost all power and squealing noises were being made. I turned it off and radioed to my foreman and told him. All he was interested in was me digging and was yelling at me for stopping the machine. I got out and checked the hydraulic oil level, and there was none. Totally empty and the leak was coming from way under the machine. Looked like it was doing it for a few hours due to the amount of hydraulic oil those machines hold. I later found that I blew up the hydraulic pump and it was like $20k in repairs. Couldn't wait to leave that job. I loved the job, but the people running the show were a pain in the butt.

My 23 had lots of bugs and bigger debris in the air box compared to previous trucks so I started investigating. I always add an aluminum screen over the from if the rads coolers and on this truck, I pulled the air intake cover off and covered it too. Solved the garbage in the air box issue. Just have to check it occasionally to make sure the screen doesn’t have to be cleaned off as well.
Oh, also saw mouse tracks under that cover in the entrance of the intake scoop!!!

Good idea

I wonder if you’ll have regen issues with that considering how sensitive the CGI motors are to air filters and flow.

It’s been on since October last year, no issues yet and I do heavy towing drawing allot of air/boost. My average fuel economy yesterday was 6.3mpg/37L-100km driving for 3 hours straight into a harsh headwind at 30,000 lbs with the boat on top of the truck and 33’ toyhauler behind.
That scoop is very wide and about 3” tall, so that’s a massive area to draw from compared to the 5”ish pipe feeding the air box.

I used to use window screen in front of the radiator from Lowe’s on the old 99 5.9. Would buy a small roll.. Doesn’t seem to be the bugs like there was growing up in the Midwest . Even on the windshields and front of trucks and cars. Maybe it’s just in Alaska. I don’t think I will screen the front of my 2022 . But the air cleaner definetely needs changed once a year. Lot of cotton from trees and fireweed fluff in the air. A 6.7 vacuum cleaner for sure

I just swap mine every time I service my truck. I change it and don’t think about it till the next service. Easy routine.

That is what I do for all of my vehicles. Filters are cheap, engines are not. Neither is my time to deal with being broke down due to lack of simple maintenance down the road.

This is also coming from someone who's a cheapskate. But even I know my limits. ;)

Makes you wonder, how many others have gone down that "rabbit hole", with a bad running truck! Amazon has a policy that they can supply you with a filter from the closest warehouse to your location, whether the supplier has stock in that warehouse or not! This is how there are so many "fake" filters throughout their system!

Do yourself a favor, support Genos Garage or your local dealer for factory filters! Don't want to be stuck on the side of the road trying to save a few dollars! Just had this conversation with my FIL. He was using whatever Autozone would supply him for his 2020 RAM! I told him that at least he needs a factory filter on the side of the engine! We'll see if he listens or not. He was saying that he was having a "stumbling" issue when traveling down the interstate at 70 - 75.
