Oil puddle at inlet of turbo

Any BOMBERS still around??

By bullet proof, I meant the company bulletproof diesel.

got their enhanced EGR cooler and a few other niceties.

since I’m having the banks installed, I’m also going to have the eye cooler replaced, the egr cleaning done and the crankcase filter and all gaskets replaced.

got the genos egr service kit coming, but won’t need to clean the egr cooler serviced since it will be replaced with a better designed one.

as far as the heater relay, I never got a recall notice.

I might just replace it anyway if someone has that part number handy.

my tech is going to have to be in there anyway.

does anyone know if the edge EZ can report on that selonoids operation?

Been toying with the idea of getting one for a long time, and if it can monitor that selonoid I may finally pull the trigger!

again, thanks to everyone for their insights!

Went and found no open recalls.

if someone has the new part number handy, I will order it and have it also installed as the engine will be quite apart.

Really thank all of you!

I don’t recall an intake heater relay for the 2020’s, just 21-23’s.

It also a quick change that doesn’t involve taking anything apart.

I'm trying to learn about the grid heater and bolt on my 2020. Here are two pics, Am I on target?

Also, you say no relay on my 2020. I'm curious as to what this might be on the passenger side. Thanks again for your expertise.

The 2020’s use the old style relay, as you show on the passenger side, which was not part of the relay recall. They 21+ trucks use a different style and have been part of the recall up thru mid year 2023.

Both your pics are accurate

Really?
All this effort to make sure the relay doesn’t stay closed?

I can tell exactly when the heater is engaged by the simple sound of the engine and the voltmeter.

never would have considered a light for that.

does the edge EZ show that info?

would rather install that because of all the additional info it provides.

very interesting where this thread went!

thanks @all!!

The problem is the relay can stick on for extended periods where you might not notice, and can come on when the engine is hot, so you may not be paying attention to the engine sound or voltmeter. Part of the recall with the solid state relays were they can stick on with the engine off and potentially cause an under hood fire. No light or other type of indication will help in that case.

Don't use remote start anymore then.
Why, because it might want to start the heater? What if the temps are normally in the 60s and never get below 40 degrees F? And if it did try to start the heater and throws a code, can't one remove the code? Just trying to understand your statement

Well yes, as soon as the system detects the fault it will throw a code, sure you can delete that code everytime it pops up.

What are you hoping to accomplish disconnecting your 2020?

After reading so many failed grid heater posts on this and other forums I decided the one thing to prevent any problem is to disconnect it. Are you implying I shouldn't or don't need to disconnect it on my 2020? I'm all ears.
I'm headed to eastern Oregon later this month where morning temps are in the 30s, so I have reconnected it.

The grid heater relay, rare but catastrophic, issues are 21-23.

The grid heater nut, extremely rare but catastrophic, can occur on all 6.7’s. The lack of a recall or redesign indicates how extremely rare it is.

Temps in the 30’s don’t need a grid heater, but on your 20 I don’t think there is any real concern with it hooked up.
