2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Ignition lock not good

My ignition lock on the steering column has issues. Not electrical issues just locking issues.
It is so worn, I can unlock it and start the truck with my Tahoe key.
I've watched videos and install looks pretty simple, but my question is, can I buy the Ignition lock keyed to my current key, say from a locksmith?
Or will I have to rekey the doors to the new ignition lock?

Yes you can, you buy a universal lock that comes with all tumblers you need and you build it to fit your key.
It's a simple and straight forward process, I did with mine ten years ago and it's still in and working great.

But that also needs a key that isn't all worn out though.

Yeah. I'm not sure what kind of shape the spare key is in, probably not great.
I've had the door cards off before, I will rekey those instead.

Yeah, I've seen the kits with all new locks and keys reasonably priced online.
So better change them altogether and call it a day.

Yeah, I've seen them, two door locks and the ignition lock and two keys for roughly 150$ around.

Should I go ahead and change the switch also, considering the truck has logged 265,000 miles?
I can also pull the key out of the lock in the accessory position.

I don't think mileage has much to do with wear. I've never replaced mine. I can not pull the key out in the accessory position.

No I'd leave it alone as it is independent from the mechanical part and throwing away a working part seems unnecessary to me.

My 98 GC does the same, even better u can pull the key in any position of the lock, it is so badly worn out, but still works fine for what i needs, isn't that funny.

My key will pull out in any position.
This "feature" actually helped me the other day. My truck was having issues starting (loose ground wire), so I was able to keep it running, pull the key, and lock the doors.
