Thanks. This was a auto project. It took me 26 hours, and I had it running. It took another 12 hours to replace the cracked timing cover I missed... Not much fun taking the cam out because the gear is pressed on. I was just curious on how I did compared to what it is called for by the book...

Not all 98's had the 53 block. My buddies old 98 had a Mexico cast block in it. His old '99 and my '99 had 53 blocks though. I'm in the process of replacing it right now. Nice looking truck. It will last you a long time. Jeff

Dang where should I have parked my truck a week ago? I wouldn't have to be replacing the 53 block this weekend then. A good thief will figure out ANY alarm system, and how to get around it.

My '99 is all stock, and I pinned the block in Feb, and today I am picking up a replacement motor for the truck. The block started to leak again in July, and over this last weekend, I could see water pouring out the side. Jeff

Can I use the ECM from my motor with the HO '02 motor? What is different between the std motor and the HO?

It is listed as a HO motor for a manual trans. I have a auto trans but if it can work and have some extra grunt, can I do it?

Well, I did some calling around, and I came across a complete '02 motor with 52,000 miles, and they want $2500 for it. What can and can not be used from this motor? I think they use a different turbo, and injectors, but would it cause any problems using them?

I need to replace the 53 block :rolleyes: in my '99 Ram. What years of donor long blocks will interchange? Will a 2001 block work, if I change over the injectors, and pump from my '99? Jeff
