    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Mystery noise?

If you have any mods to your track bar (ie, Lukes Link) or a MagHytek diff cover, it may rub up against or hit the front diff cover when you go over a bump, especially when the wheel is turned. Check to see if there are any wear marks on the front differential cover. Good luck

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Another #%*#dead apps/tps question

My APPS is dead as well. It has been failing for some time and I have been keeping my eye on the threads for APPS/TPS problems. Here is what I have learned: 1) The 24v sensor is an APPS. The 12v sensor is a TPS. The TPS sensors are cheap and you can get them from Cummins or NAPA. The APPS...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Gurggling noise behind glove box!

Here is a strange problem that I hope someone can help me with. When I start the truck up, for the first couple of minutes there is a gurggling/bubbling noise that is coming from behind the glove box. It sounds like there is some kind of fluid in the black plastic ducts in there. The bubbling...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Trans unlocking hunting / TPS

I have the same problem with my tps/apps on my 24v. I will go out tomorrow to take a look at the wireing but am not very electrically inclined so I may have to ask a few questions. I will let you know what I find.

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) throttle position sensor problem?

    yeah, I have reset a couple of times, it helps a little for a week or so and then goes bach to the same old thing, in and out of O/D and the gears at 43-50 mph. It is driving me nuts. I think that I will just have to pay up:{

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) throttle position sensor problem?

That sucks! I need a new apps and am trying to find anyplace to sell me one under the $600 dealer price. . If anyone knows of somwhere reasonable to buy one let me know. It sucks that you have to buy the whole assembly to get a little sensor.

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Bad APPS/TPS

Has anyone had any experience with replacing the APPS on a 98. 5 with the one from Napa (just the sensor not the whole throttle assembly that you get fron the dealer). I really dont want to spend $400 on an entire assembly when the only problem is a bad pot. I dont know if I want to experiment...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Reverse lights on the fritz

I have been having problems with my reverse lights as of late. They work sometimes, but in the past few weeks they hardly ever work. They seem to work and then flicker on and off as im backing up. They both do it at the same time so it is not the bulbs. I have checked the switch at the trans...

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Wheelbearing question

The bearing was not that hard to replace on my 98. 5 3/4 ton. It required removing the hub from the steering knuckle and driving the studs out of the rotors. There are pretty good instructions and pictures in the hayes manual you can get at any auto store, it is about $20. The whole process took...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Brake pads and shoes replacement

I changed pads, rotors and calipers on my 98 two weeks ago. I used the Hayes manual but I also looked at the last TDR magazine, there is an artilcle near the front that talks about a front end job that has lots of good tips. I was pretty easy. The Hayes manual is definatly worth the cost, and I...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission 2nd gen powered tow mirrors

I need a passenger side power heated mirror! Some SOB took out my passenger side mirror when I was parked the other day. If anyone has one they dont need anymore that will fit a 98 I would be very thankful. The plastic cover and power actuators are still intact and work it just shattered the...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Whining Whirring Noise

hey, Try checking and slightly adjusting the rubber connector gaskets between the turbo and the air intake on the engine. I brought my 98. 5 into the dealer to get the throttle linkage replaced and noticed a whisleing noise at about 2200 rpm after I got the truck back. Looked around on the site...
