    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) adjusting shift lever

Look underneath your truck, up by the transmission. You will see the linkage rod going from the shift lever, to the arm on the transmission. Somewhere on the linkage, you will see an adjustment. On my machine, there is a bolt that 'locks' the adjustment where 2 linkage pieces join together. Loosen the...

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) transmission shift problems

Sometimes a transmission temp. sensor going bad can cause odd shifting problems, as well. The transmission is not supposed to shift into overdrive, nor lock up the torque converter until a certain operating temperature is reached. JB

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission New drag link & tie rod link install tips

Jack up the whole front end, and put a mark on both front tires. Measure the distance between the marks when they are both forward, and again when they are both back. When you put in the new tie-rod ends, adjust to get the same measurements. JB

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission When to change brake pads

That's odd, my '94 wears the front pads very evenly.

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission gear ratio identification

The 3500s are available in a single-rear wheel unit by special order. The easiest way to find out the axle ratio is the underhood sticker. If you can't find it there, there should be a tag right on the axle. It will be a thin metal tag that is held on by one of the differential cover bolts. JB

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission When to change brake pads

Brakes My pads had a 'wear finger' on them. This is basically just a little 'tab' that contacts the brake disk when the pad wears to a certain point. Its purpose is to make the brakes squeal while there is still a little bit of pad left. I say replace when this happens, or at 1/8 inch pad...

    Trailer / Truck styles ????

Trailer Oh, I forgot to mention, if you are afraid that a SB won't have as much clearance for the trailer when turning and such, you can get an 'offset' stem for the trailer (sets the trailer back about 6 inches or so, and, at least on some livestock trailers, you can get a 'small' nose, which...

    Front axle disconnect advise-options

disconnect They went away with the disconnect, while at the same time went with another axle maker. Now all you control is the transfer case. In my opinion, if they were smart, they would put good old, reliable locking hubs in front, or at least make them optional. Jerry

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Shackles?

Thanks Thanks a bunch! The Velvet-ride was just what I was looling for. Thanks again! :)

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Shackles?

I was watching one of those shows with Sam Melnamo (sp?) in it, where they were spotlighting some replacement shackles for the rear suspension on pickup trucks. They were cushioned or spring loaded somehow, and were supposed to take the jolt out of highway expansion joints, and the like, yet not...

Added a turnoverball on my 03

I have one of those in my 94. So far, it has been great. Just like you said, instructions were good, and it went together pretty easy, all things considered. I know I measured 4 or 5 times before cutting the hole in my truck bed, though! Wound up it fit just like they said it would. After 8...

    Trailer / Truck styles ????

trailer towing I routinely pull a 20 foot goosneck livestock trailer. The trailer weighs 5500# empty, and we put up to 12,000# of cattle in it, making for a 17,500 total trailer weight. This couples to a B&W Turn-over Gooseneck ball. My takes: Go with the Gooseneck if you can. My B&W is...

    Front axle disconnect advise-options

Axle Disconnect Posi-Lok makes an axle disconnect, available through NAPA dealers. It replaces the vacuum actuator with a cable run into the cab. I have this on my 1986 W150. It works perfectly, but the wife doesn't care for the looks of the cable/knob coming up under the dash. I installed it...

    Another "Demise of Ford" artical

I think when the economy comes back (the DOW is already up) many of their troubles will shrink. Would be a bummer to lose Ford. Wouldn't be able to argue with the neighbor which make is better then.

    Winter fuel and milage

Mileage After 8 years with my CTD, I have noticed that I always seem to lose 2 or 3 MPG in the winter time. Part of the reason is winter fuel (I have seen the same tractor dyno 125 HP on straight #2, and drop to 120 HP after 5 gallons of #1 have been added to the fuel tank - same day, 15...

Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Reusable air filter 'vs paper air filter

I have heard from a friend who works in a Dodge shop, that if you use an oiled filter, be careful not to over-oil it. He has seen cases of oil gunking up the aftercooler.

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) FREE - transmission fittings for a '94-'97

I also have some of the 1994 style fittings. Mine started to leak, so I replaced them all. If anyone wants them, PM me, I will send them out for the costs of boxing them up & shipping them out. That way I won't be tempted to put one back in case one of my new lines springs a leak ;)

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Trans shifting update still broke

I would suggest buying a new TPS, cleaning up the old one as suggested above, and keeping it as a spare. This way you can clean it whenever you get around to it, and take all the time you need instead of havinging to do a hurry up job. Mine needs a sensor swap about every 2 years regardless of...

Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) TC clutch briefly unlocking now and then

Mine has done that a couple times already. I just bought a second TPS, and swap it out. That way I can take the time to clean the switch properly at my liesure. The best way is to pop it open, clean up the contacts with electrical cleaner, and then re-seal the cover with hi-temp silicone (just...
