I own a 2001 1 ton 4wd and am considering changing over to 3/4 and am wanting to know what's involved? Is the 3/4 axle a different width? Do the front spindles need to be changed, or is it possible to remove the adapters and mount the wheels directly to the hub without them? Thanks, Chris

Why?

I've seen members on this board wanting to go the other way. Seems to me you should have plenty of takers to do the conversion.

Remove rear fenders or use real wide single wheels on rear, remove front wheel spacers, bolt up new wheels and tires. 2500 trucks with sticks came with Dana 80 rears. You could probably sell your rear fenders and front wheel spacer to cover the cost of new wheels and tires.

If I undeerstand this correctly, the rear axle is the same width for 1 ton and 3/4 ton? If so, I'll find a nice clean SRW takeoff from a local utilty bed business. Can I get verification that the front spacers are the only difference between 1 ton and 3/4 ton? I'll admit it sounds too easy, so any assurance would be appreciated prior to my actually doing this swap. Thanks, Chris

Rear axles are not the same width. Front end on a 4x4 is the same, just remove the spacer/adapter.

The bed is a mess under the fender so swapping beds is the best way to go.

If you keep your rear axle, I think your rears will stick out about 1 to 2 inches wider than a single wheel axle.

I've seen it done on trucks with aftermarket wheels and fender flairs and it isn't very noticable unless you know what you are looking for.
