The engine mounted lift pump has FINALLY been superceded to an in-tank fuel pump kit. The part numbers are 5175539AA for the 34 gallon tank, and 5175540AA for the 35 gallon tank and list for $312. 90. They are not STAR restricted, which means it should not be a hassle to get. I've got one on order for myself to see what all comes in the box.

$233 from my parts dept. for all TDR members - FWIW

It is labeled as "Repair PK"

crazy huh? -- And 268 availble in the national warehouse

Why would you want a problematic lift pump in your tank vs. on the filter housing. If you are looking to completely avoid a lift pump problem, get an aftermarket pusher pump for roughly the same price and eliminate the LP all together.

Lift pumps and pusher pumps I am not familiar with.

Will the in-tank pump provide more fuel pressure to the injection pump at WOT?

If not, why change it?

Thats just awesome! I am half tempted to give one a try before the RASP. All I care about is dropping below 2 lbs @ 26,000 lbs rail and WOT. I wonder how they regulate it or if its self regulated?

I suppose this also means should the old style fail within warranty- service departments will retro fit??

What do you think RB, Should we run out and buy one? Doc

IMO its a lot of $$$ for a retrofit

But then again, Most people I have talked to with 05's and FP gauges report good FP

Heck, its now a factory installed pusher-pump (like pre-bombed!)

I think it depends on a person's mechanical skills. If you're mechanically inclined, there are many benefits to putting in a complete aftermarket fuel pump system. If you're not mechanically inclined, then there's something to be said for a plug-and-play simple system with a tradeoff in performance. Sort of like the difference between people who buy Dell computers and those who build their own. You pay more for less performance, but you gain simplicity and time savings.

Just an opinion.

Compared to an in-tank pump on a gas powered truck its a good buy. I may jump on this. . Any 05 owners who are bombed with a TST and or stacked stuff and a gauge want to chime in?

want pictures

Oo.

Heck, based upon my experience, I think you have it backwards (not unless I miss-understood you). The retrofit would be hard to install IMO. BUT my DPP fuel pump, Heck a monkey could install that thing... And it was plug and play...

I bet this will be a real pain to install -

With the Quadzilla 140 box on my '05, the f/p drops to zero in 2 gears (auto)

If anyone actually wants this set up  have I got a deal for you. Low miles (3k) 1 owner... .....

This may not be a user installable upgrade as I have read on another form and looked at wiring diagram because a REFLASH of the ECM may be needed. The ECM directly controlls the pump and it may also be doing some monitoring of the operations of the pump therefore it needs to have a program change for a different pump.

Ever since I heard of the 05 CTD's starting to use a in-tank fuel pump I have tried to weight the advantages over the canister mounted lift pump like on my 03.

I can see the advantage in pushing the fuel instead of pulling, and I guess having the pump in the tank itself would help keep the fuel pump cooler.

The disadvantage of course would be if pump or "when" pump goes out having to drain and drop the tank to replace with a new one. At some point like a canister mounted lift pump the in-tank fuel pump will fail sooner or later I would think.

Being new for 05 models only time will tell on longevity of pump. I guess I'm trying to compare it to the gassers with in-tank pumps, because I know of several of them having to be change out due to failure. Friend of mine had a 2001 Chevy pick-up with 61K miles on it and his in-tank pump started acting up trying to go out. Had to take a hammer to bottom of tank with few taps and then truck finally started up a couple times hear lately. It was just another reason for him to trade it in on a new Nissan pick-up about three weeks ago.

Don't really know which would be the better pump.

LOL @ Rip!!! :-laf

Matt, yes they will retrofit upon a failure, in fact the only replacement ( according to my local dealer) is the new in tank pump. Mine failed a couple weeks ago with just short of 70k on the odo. Had to go in on the hook, it stumbled a time or two then quit and would not restart - anyway they installed the retrofit, I don't have a FP guage so I cannot report anything other than it runs fine now :) Kevin

PS : Gypsyman, the e-brake works great - you are right I use it all the time even when empty! Oo.
