03 2500 larger tires?

Can anyone out there help? I want to put larger tires on the new baby to fill up those wheel wells and to bring down the RPMs a bit due to the 4:10s. I did a search but did not find anything informative for larger tires for the 03 with the 17" rims. What would be the largest tire I could fit on the stock 8" wide rim and not do any suspesion mod?

You may can run 33/12. 50's(305/70/17) but I'm not sure if they would rub in the front on a sharp turn without any lift. My plans are to lift the front to level the truck and then go to a 35/12. 50(315/75/17) or maybe a 33/12. 50. I leveled my 2001 and put 35/12. 50's on it and if I turned it real sharp to the right it would rub. As far as the RPM's go if you can put the 35's on it then it will be close to the same RPM's as a truck with 3:73's and stock tires.

BFG 315/70-17's are out (for the hummer2) and will fit according to these guys without any mods. Just a bit big for me, I am waiting for the 285/70-17 which according to BFG will be out in a couple of weeks.



By the way - you can get some really good deals on the 315's at Tirerack.com or discounttire.com.

Just ordered a set of BFG AT 315/70R17's from tire rack. . $129 each, about $88 shipping 2 day fedex from Louisiana (cheaper than UPS ground!), so it was about $619 for 4 tires shipped from LA to NY. Pretty damn good deal, IMHO. I wasn't planning on doing tires this soon, but I can't pass up a deal like that. Too bad I didn't order yesterday though, yesterday they still had stock in their Delaware warehouse and I could of saved $20 on shipping. Right now they are out of stock at all warehouses besides LA, so if you want a set, better get moving. .

Got my BFG AT 315/70's put on this afternoon. They fit perfect and look great. My truck is totally stock suspension wise, and no rubbing at all. I'm going to put a 2" leveling kit in next month, but just for looks.



Now I just need to figure out if one will fit up under the truck for the spare. .

My buddy and I both have 3500 4X4 SRW SWB's.



I went with 17X9 wide wheels on mine, and had to put a 2" leveling kit on to squeeze my 315/70/17 BFG AT/KO's under there. They rubbed without the leveling kit, and I suspect it's because of the wider wheels I went with. I still only have about 1" of clearance at it's closest point to my fender when turned.



My buddy put MTR 37"X12. 50" 17R tires on 17X8 wheels, and was able to get them in with the 2" leveling kit and a little inner-fender grinding It's close, but it works. It was sheer height that forced him to do the leveling kit, as the width didn't seem to be the problem.



So you can get away with 315/70/17 on 8" wide (stock) wheels without any lift. But a wider wheel (9"+) allows the tire to "relax wider" and WILL RUB without a leveling kit. Trust me.

If anyone is looking for a good deal (I felt like it was anyway) on a set of Mud Terrain tires check out 4wheelparts. The Pro Comp Mud Terrain 35/1250R17 list for $249. 95/ea on there website but they have a buy three get one free deal going. I found the same tire at National Tire and Wheel for $206/ea and they also had the buy 3 get 1 free deal going but this place is located in West Virginia and shipping was going to cost to much. 4wheelParts matched there price... ..... the set to my door is costing $679. 16... . $169. 79 per tire..... that's the best I've found anyway..... by the way you have to tell them about National Wheel and Tire prices for them to match it. .

You might want to check out the ProComp Leveling kit for a 2nd Gen. 3/4 or 1 Ton, the front spacers are either steel or aluminum (not sure which) but the kit will raise the front 2". The kit is part number 56594 and I think it lists for $319. 95 at 4wheelparts. The catch is that the kit has 4 shocks that come with it but procomp told me the rear shocks will not fit the 2003 SOooo If you change the part number to 56594-1 you will get the spacers ((and procomp said he wasn't sure if the polyurethane bump stops that come with the spacers would fit the 2003)) without the shocks for $206 to your door (depending on shipping)

A buddy of mine has these spacers and they are black and if you didn't know what you were looking at you wouldn't even notice them. At first they said that I couldn't order them like this but when I told him I had talked to procomp and that I would find somewhere else to get only the spacers he came back and said I could...

Thanks for the info. I was planning on a Daystar poly leveling kit, but I'll check out the procomp stuff too.



So far so good on the tires - one's out of balance, but that's because I heard it fling a weight about a mile from the shop. . Gonna go rebalance it today.

I went with DayStar and am very happy with them. Black, you don't even notice they're there. Really beefs up the truck.

Correction to my previous post, my buddy used a 3" spacer from a Rancho kit to fit those 37's in there.

Nah, I sprung for the extra travel shocks. I figured while I was in there I might as well go the extra $80 bucks and take care of it.



Not sure if they were necessary, but what the heck. As long as you have the front end dangling in the air, you might as well.

Is that an option to the Daystar kit? I was under the impression that Daystar just was spacers, nothing more.

Correct, the DayStar kit is just the polyeurethane spacer. I purchased additional shocks (DeutchTek sp?) from the place I bought the spacers from. I have no idea what part number, I just asked for them and they handed them to me.



They said the stock shocks wouldn't have enough travel in them after the 2" lift. It appealed to the right side of my brain, so I sprung for the shocks No point in doing it half-a$$ when you have that much invested in your ride.



BTW, the instructions on the DayStar kit are vague at best. You're going to need a coil compresser to get the coils back in. The drivers side coil went in with a little prying, but there was no way the passenger side was going back in without a compresser. I rented one for free from the local Checker/Schucks/Kraegen. We unbolted just about every tie rod there was trying to get just one more inch to squeeze it in, but it wouldn't go. So get one before the project and thank me later



The truck sits up like a bull dog after the leveling kit. It's really sharp. I had people at the service department of Dodge swearing that it was a 4" lift. They just couldn't believe that 2" in the front could make that kind of difference.

I am amazed how much better my truck looks just with the tires. Being black side wall they don't catch the eye as being non-stock, but they sure change the overall look. Can't wait to level it out too.

They would top out when you went slow over a bump with one wheel,like a man hole cover or something like that.
