Load Range D vs. E at Same Weight?

David,

Your pics convince me that maybe there is a tire available out there for me now--they fit, they look good, they're my long-time favorite model, and they look like they don't stick out too far.

That last has been the sticking (no pun intended) point for me--I like to keep the side of the truck and the windows clean, so I was really hoping someone would come out with a 75-series tire in a taller size for this truck.

The 3. 1" taller than stock height is really pushing my 1-3/4" garage door clearance, too.

I have one question for anyone who might have an input: Given that I tow very heavy--probably close to 22,500 lbs GCW with this truck (albeit only once or twice a year, but for long distances), are there any concerns over the Load Range D tires rated for 3195 lbs @ 50 psi vs. the stock Load Range E tires rated for the same 3195 lbs, but at 80 psi?

Thanks,

Mark

Yep, mine are on the stock 17x8 aluminums that came with the Sport package. Works great and they mounted easily. No fighting with them at all.

FYI Mark,

Even after the 2" front kit and BFG's, my truck still fits in my standard height garage.

Granted, there's about a 1/16" clearance (literally), and I don't breathe much until the clearance light have cleared, but it fits!

The extra width of the 9" rim does throw a lot of water and dirt and the side of my truck, but hasn't reached the windows yet.

I've always liked Goodyear tires and have had great luck with the AT/S tires. The Goodyear stores have treated me very well over the years and Goodyear has a lot of stores in small towns (less than 5000 or 10000 people) that I travel to a lot, and those were the major reasons I bought them. However, I emailed Goodyear and the 285 or 305 size in 17" are not and will not be produced. The Goodyear AT/S 17" sizes are only good for <2600 pounds. :(

The T/A's I ran on my hot rods were excellent. Looks like i may be a BFG man again! I will be looking at the Michelins too. Gotta see how the new machine fits in the garage door. I wish the BFG LT315/70R17D's had raised white letters. I guess that's a boomer thang.

Duck - Nice Truck :)

I also have the daystar spacers in black headed my way. I've got a rack to lift the truck, and I have spring compressor, do you think I'll still need to pop the links? Did the alignment change?

Seriously, nice truck, mines same except LWB.

Thanks!

You shouldn't have to pop any of the arms off. I did because I didn't have a compressor, and I thought by popping some arms off it might give me that 1" I needed. I pulled 3 of them off (not familiar enough with front suspensions to name them by name), and it didn't make one bit of difference.

Yes, my alignment is off. I took it to a place, and they said the toe-in was off and they fixed it. Then they said "it still pulls to the right though" and they didn't know why.

Me thinks I need to go to antoher place, or possibly Dodge to get it straightened out.

Plenty of slack in all the lines to go up 2-3 inches.

Thanks Cat. The 17X9 M/T Classic II's really put it over the top IMHO. The wheels look like 44 Mag revolver barrels (8 shot barrels, I guess :p ) Turns a lot of heads, and nobody, not even the service dept guys at the dodge stealership, can believe all I did was put a 2" front kit on it. What's really nuts is that if you use 8" wide rims, you don't even need the extra 2 inches!

One of my local tire dealers (Big O) shot me a price on the BFGs of $315 EACH (not including balancing, mounting) because they are "so new".

dnitzel -

WOW! Get a Group Purchase Going... Gee, we might get them for $314 each. OOOHHHH. Can't Wait, Can YouOo.

What a Crook!

Thanks Duck - Mine should level out quite well when empty, and be less than 1" low in the back when on the overlaods, which should even back out again when I find a bumper/winch that I like without taking out a loan. ( I like Reunel's Bumper, I Like all the options, I like my wife too, shes nice to have around,,,, decisions, decisions... . )

Hello all, here is a picture of my truck with the new BFG 315/70-R17. They are great, some guys posted that these are too big. I think they are just right, and on the stock 17"x8" rim there is no need for any suspension mods. Also running the 4:10 gears these tires bring the RPMs down. The truck rides great, I have always loved the BFG radial all terrains. have had them on some other trucks in the past. :D

Hella-Nice truck, DieselMan.

Our trucks appear to be the same base truck, except you opted for the longbed.

I live in Chandler, but am always going up north to ride quads and play in snow. Love the way it pulls up the hills. On the hills tween Sedona and Flag, you don't even have to shift out of 6th if you're not loaded. On the hill just south of Sunset Point, I can still do 75 with a fully loaded quad trailer without breaking a sweat.

Have you lowered your lights yet? I need to but haven't found the time yet. I keep blinding the little cars on I-17

Why?

I can't find the BFG M/T in 315/70r17... . do they make it? I found a 285/70r17 is that all there is? Does anyone have these tires in a truck with 3. 73's? How does it go?

I don't think they exist in an MT yet. They are the Hummer H2 tires which is why they exist and are black sidewall.

I have them on mine with 3. 73's, and I love it. The only problem is that the auto shifts into overdrive too soon and it's lugging pretty bad if you're not accelerating hard. But that will get cured at some point. . :D

Dieselman,

What brand, size and price are those tires again?

They look great.

You must have changes mirrors too?

Eric
