04.5 Fed emmision sold to cali resident

Timely post for me... I just finished registration... these be the facts:



AAA doesn't do "dealer assisted" registration on new cars- AAA lied to me twice.



4 different people in DMV were very courteous over a 2 hour period.



You need your sticker on the valve cover and it has to specify CA



There is a line on the DC cert of origin that says "this vehicle is certified for CA" (no one's mentioned that yet).



No one wrote down anything from the truck except the temporary registration and the VIN # during the inspection.



They did alot of cross-checking in front of me at the computer, and I always said "yes ma'am". ( I even told Mrs. Cleaver that her nail polish high-lighted the flowers on her shirt quite nicely". )



You definately need a certified wt ticket to get tags, get one ahead of time, it cost me an additional hour plus.



my ride came in at 6880 lb with the new tires, 1/4 tank & all the parts, not inc t-rex ( I could dump a quick 300 to get under 7000 if I had to - no need)



I would be less inclined for the switch on the valve cover because of the missing line on the certificate of origin and all the computer cross-checking.



I think the dealer is on the hook for misrepresentation and I would send him his Christmas present in a Pringles can... probably booby-trapped with compressed air... damn... that's an idea that might have legs... gotta look into that.

The Update



Desert Dodge and the Scott Rebar Team in Las Vegas Nevada put on a great show of smoke and mirrors. Scott Rebar promised a 05 truck identical to the 04. 5 they originally sold me without Cali emissions knowing I was a Cali resident. Turns out once the 05 arrived it was missing several options that I had on the 04. 5 and additionally would not be given the price protection that a unnamed DC rep had promised me. Further investigation unveiled salesmen trickery at its finest. They assured me I was gettting the same price for the 05 as the 04. 5 do to the bottom line. What they failed to freely inform me about was that the 05 was missing options the 04. 5 had and that was the sole reason the 04. 5 and 05 were close in price. So I was getting a 05 for the same price as a 04. 5 but with less options - plus the lessor rebate to the tune of 1800 bucks (Had a ebrake on the 04. 5 that I cannot get on the 05). They assured me it was all good because I was getting 147 dollars back. Plus, once I agreed to their offer presented to me several times to "unwind the deal" and give me my money back... ..... they clammed up and started telling me to talk to another dealer. This is a 5 star dealer. BTW this was done to at least one other cali resident as admitted to by Scott Rebar. He assured me that he had a 100 customers register US emission vehicles without a problem. Lucky Me! ;-) Again I ordered this truck all along with their knownledge I was a Cali resident.

I did not just fall off the turnip truck. Maybe last week, but not this week.



So as I step off my soap box I continue my story in stating that CALI DMV did reject my registration and even sent me a letter affirming so. DC and Cali DMV has apparently cracked down on the sales of US emmission trucks to Cail residents at least in the Vegas area according to my scamsmen as evidence by a (unseen) letter to their dealership. (Note the source) He stated that future trucks trying to be registered would be impounded by DMV and that all non-cali trucks and cali truck can now be traced via the VIN #. Prior trucks that were able to pass registration inspection by Cali's best are grandfathered/amenestied in. So I know i may here a "I told you so" and "I know more than you", but I really am looking for any help any TDR members may be able to provide in dual ownership of a vehicle. Example: Oregon resident and cali resident on same title. Thanks in advance all. Take care.

Anyone able to provide info on registering out of state with another indivdual on the title that lives in that state. Example cali and oregon resident on same title with registration in oregon. Thanks all for any help.

All you need to do is get the car jointly registered in both names. Use the oregon address your name with both names on the title. Make sure you use the word AND between the two owners since if your check the OR box, they could resale without your signature...

I have the mso in my name and wife's. Do I need the dealer to change the mso or can I register the truck to any name I want as I am the owner. Their is a lien holder on the mso.

Join Escapees RV Club out of Livingston,Tx. . The are on the web under Escapees.com. They will give you a legal street address and you can register your new truck with Texas and not have to get a Texas Drivers License. They will send you the plates to your California home address. That is the way I escapeed the high tax and BS of the California DMV in 1997. .

As long as the truck has 7500 miles or more on the clook and you have an emissions sticker there is no reason why they should not register it for you.

The sticker does not have to meed Cal Emissions of the truck has over 7500 miles. I deal with this problem on a daily basis.

If you go back to the beginning of this thread you will find that the truck in question did not have a California emissions sticker and was purchased new with zero miles.

You need to go back and read this entire thread to understand what happened here. You also need to take a closer look at the California motor vehicle laws. The guy bought a new (zero miles) Federal emissions truck in Nevada and took it to the California DMV to register. The DMV folks identified it was Federal only and told the guy he had to remove it from California. California law specifically prohibits a California resident from buying a new Federal emissions vehicle, drive it to get 7500 miles, and then have the DMV register it.

Problem with California is some many people from the other states have moved here and now we is way crowded polluted Now the way it used to be. Perhaps all these new californians will leave

That truck ain't coming into Ca. as long as you are on title. The rules state if you bought it out of state,has over 7500 miles and is not registered in your name you can bring it in. If you have a Ca driver license when you come to register it it's a no go. If you move into the state from another state and have their license it will go. Register it in someone else name out of state and put the miles on it and then bring it back,and if they did not flag the vin it should go.

I registered mine in Montana after starting an LLC. (No sales tax). Jared S. Heggen set up the LLC(1-888-777-5032) and handles all my paperwork, also for the business. After 7500 miles it can be registered in Ca. if they hadn't started the pay by the mile cr--.

I too live in CA and bought outta state but as of Jan 01, 2004 all Dodge cummins are 50 state legal!! I know cause I was worried about the same happening to me. Also helped the Gal at the DMV was short and asked me to read the sticker to her.

This is simply NOT TRUE and has been a topic of much discussion on this forum since January 2004! A California emissions sticker is still required to register a new 2004+ Cummins in California. Do a search in the 3rd gen section back to the February/March time frame and you will get an accurate understanding of this subject. Please get your facts straight before making proclamations like this.
