I got the reflash yesterday so I've only got 50 miles on the truck so far. It runs fine and the hunting idle appears to be gone. It has never pinged and still doesn't. The dealer wouldn't do the TSB at first because unless you state your getting poor mileage, they can't do it and charge Dodge for the labor. On the TSB it states one of the fixes is for poor mileage. In a mix of city and highway driving, my overhead is sitting at 22. 5 mpg right now which is the highest it's ever been. I'm not one of the guys who complained about poor mileage but I figured more is better and like Klenger, I would most likely get it eventually so why wait. This weekend I'm going to put 500 miles on the truck pulling our trailer to a motorcycle race so I'll have a better idea of how it actually affects my mileage come Monday.

"pinging" sound less

Before the falsh I had a slight pinging sound while cruising with light throttle around 1500-2000 RPM's. This seems to be considerably less, if not almost gone since the flash. Might be my imagination or wishfull thinking, but it does seem less. Overall, the truck seems smoother and power appears to be about the same unloaded.

Well brought mine in this morning for the TSB and got nothing but a hard time. Said they can't just do a TSB. Also said they have never heard of A MILEAGE PROBLEM BLAH BLAH BLAH. Then the Sevice Manager said he has never heard of a 600 "pinging". Well I never even mentioned the word so of course I jumped on him. He couldn't wait to get away from me then. What a bunch of crap. If they don't do the TSB then I never buy another truck there thats for sure. He also said TDR was a bunch of crap. LOL!!

I think you should post the dealers and service managers name and a phone number we can call and talk to him nicely about what a bunch of crap we are.

At the top of the page, under Discussion Forums, click on USER CONTROLL PANEL. When there, you will see at the left side, Edit Profile. I believe you will be able to see what you need to do there. As computer illiterate as I am, I was able to set up profile.

Good Luck!

Buzzer, get a different dealer.

Scott, wish I could. Johnny H and I were trading a few emails about the dealer issue and its easier said then done here on LI. Not too much to choose from around us. Most of them are falt out crooks. That said they did the TSB (I think, as they put a sticker on the radiator cowl) and I'll let you know how I make out in a day or so.

Well, just got home from the dealer after the new flash & door hinge replacement. I'm having a tough time believing the computer so far. 31 miles from the dealer to home, Pennsylvania winding two lane at 55 MPH, 20. 1 MPG. Does it clatter less under light throttle? Maybe, but I probably wouldn't have noticed if someone hadn't mentioned it.

Just loaded the the truck camper into the truck. I have a 400 mile round trip to Syracuse this weekend for the snowmobile show. Best ever with the camper so far has been 12. 1 mpg hand calculated, I'll let you know how the mileage turns out. Oh yeah, 8000 miles on the truck.

Most of them are falt out crooks

I hear ya Buzz. And NEVER mentiong the Internet to a Service Manager - don't you know EVERYTHING on the Internet is hogwash? :-laf

I'm going to wait until the weather gets cold, and just see how bad my mileage gets on winter-blend fuel, and if I get any white smoke before I consider having this done.

Does anyone know if this reflash or any other will help an 03? Have a friend that has an 03 that get only 11 mpg. He loves the truck but not the mileage.

I did hand calc mine with 288 miles, couldn't wait any longer to check. It was 15. 15, which is up from my usual of 12. 5 to 13. 3 for the same route. I drive the same route daily, same conditions, etc. Getting ready to drive about 2500 miles next week, so that will be a good test. The overhead was reading 15. 3 which is real close.

This sounds like good news... but as this flash appearently is coming from Chrysler & Cummins knows nothing about it... .

What would be ideal... . someone who has a recent dyno reading & then the flash with an after dyno test.

Has Chrysler gotten the better mileage thru reduction in fuel??? (ie, less power?) Or maybe just recalibrated the overhead to get less complaints???

Or actually figured out a way to increase mileage thru better atomization of fuel or a timing change???? (perhaps cutting back on fuel just at idle?)

The good news is we have direct reports from the best, most honest & unbiased testing out there!!!! Keep up the good work & God bless all of you that do the "bleeding edge" testing for the rest of us! :)

Dan

I had the flash done this morning and as I drove away, my overhead showed 17. 8mpg. It was at 15. 8 prior. I choose to believe it beacuse I feel better:)

IF they did something to the timing would it mess up a box like the TST that advances the timing  Has anyone put the box back on their trucks after a reflash noticed anything different.

UPDATE TSB MPG + codes

I had the tsb done 3mpg more by hand my. I allso hadchk eng light + p0633, p0630 took to dealer. He said they didn't take they didn't shpw up on DRB good bye. road tested truck said works fine. First they say can't fix it no codes then when you have them still nothing

Reflash Update on MPG

:) Had the reflash done Wed. Morning and the number are up! Went from 13 mpg city to 17. 6 and highway from 14. 5 to 19. 8 Engine Sounds better and smoother Too. Get yours reflashed Soon.

Too early for me to tell yet whether the fuel economy improved but the engine certionly doesn't ping anymore. That in itself is an improvement. :)

I had mine done on Thursday, and drove from Tucson to Denver (900 miles) yesterday. Filled up just before I left, once in Las Vagas NM, and again in Denver. Average milage for the 900 miles was 18. 5 going 70-75 MPH most of the way. I am very pleased with the results.
