Visited DIESEL PERFORMANCE UNLIMITED
Well I drove by DPU after work today and paid a visit to their shop on Road 68. I met Chad and had a nice chat and he was willing to answer all my questions and show me around the shop. They've got some cool stuff, including a very nice HEADER kit for both the 2nd and 3rd Gen 24-valve trucks that they finished developing and began selling recently!
From as much as I could get out of him they pretty much do their own injectors, at least I was satisfied they are not Dr. Performance. They have been working over a year developing injectors and trying different spray patterns and have come up with injectors that seem to work quite well (although I have no firsthand experience with them). They build their own injectors except for the extrude hone process of the tips which they send back east to be done. After buying new tips, having them sent out to be EH'd they assemble here and test them for flow and popoff pressure. They had scores of injectors lined up there in various stages of manufacture, mainly 2nd and 3rd Gen Cummins, a bunch of Powerstroke injectors and a few DMax sets. They have quite a few sets covering 65 to 250 hp gains.
Back to the header kit. . . their header is what you would call a "shorty" set, the primaries are about 6" long, go into 2 collectors which feed into the turbo mount flange. The header flanges appear to be 3/8” stock and the tubes I would guess are 12 gauge material. The unit looked good, not as good as mass-produced but handcrafted by an experienced fabricator. About the same or better than the MBRP piece I posted about but with much shorter runners. They are not perfectly equal length but there is less than 2” difference between the longest and shortest runner.
On the 3rd Gen header the turbo is relocated more centrally on the cylinders and the kit includes a downpipe to match and they also do downpipes for aftermarket turbos such as the B1 (which they sell). He said the header kit was in the $700 range.
Unfortunately DPU doesn’t have a website and they are not a large operation, primarily cater to diesel enthusiasts in this area. They used to be one of Dr. P’s vendors but they broke relations with him 2-3 years ago. They sell EZ and I think BD products.
Anyway I enjoyed my visit and think they’re a decent vendor. They are building a rail right now, that looks sweet
