What is the secret to removing (and replacing) the belt ?

I just installed the Jacobs E-Brake. Took me about 6 hours for everthig except the belt. The last item is to install the longer belt. I 've got another 4 hours into trying to take out the original belt. - time for help !!

I unload the tensioner from the bottom with a 1/2 in breaker bar and slip the belt off the A/C pump. The belt is loose and comes off all the pulleys but it seem to be threaded through the tensioner. The idler is right up against the gear case and no obvious way to slip it over. I am starting to think that the radiator might have to come out to take the tensioner off. There must be a simple way (or it would do no good to carry a spare).

Thanks in advance.

It's a royal PITA. I think I spent almost 2 hours trying to get the belt back on. What was very confusing is that there is a small tube in front of the fan with some kind on electronic sensor right in front of the fan clutch. If I hadn't taken the belt off myself, I would swear there is not way to install one w/o removing the sensor. I finally got it on, but have no idea how to explain the process. Good luck.

GerryDrake - the part numbers printed on the longer belt that came with my Jacobs/Cummins exhaust brake kit is:

Cummins 3947077

Mopar 53041270AA 42332L SN2332

Klenger - I could not describe the routing of the belt in words either. Could you tell me if you had to remove or loosen the belttensioner ?? Or did you remove anything else to gain access ?

Thanks

Alan

I did not remove anything to (finally) get it on. The tensioner is the last pully I put the belt over, and just moved it with a ratchet handle.
