I heard someone claim they know what is/is not going to be on the 04. This is what I heard. Has anyone else been able to confirm.

Auto transmission will not be approved for exhaust brake

GPS unit

The 2500 and 3500 have different running gear in addition to the overload spring

I don't know about the exhaust brake for autos

I do know that there is a new stereo system option that includes a GPS unit.

There is no difference in running gears between 2500 and 3500. the only difference (other than DRW) is the 3500 rear spring which has a reduced spring rate in combination with a stiffer auxiliary spring, but this is no unique to the 04's -- it was the case for the 03's as well.

See the thread from Carlton Bale about the e-brake for the 48re in 2004. If all goes as planned, a harware change will be made for MY2004, and a software change for MY2004. 5, and when both are in the 48re should be approved for the e-brake. If that is right, any 2004 truck with the 48re should be capable of e-brake install in January with a re-flash of the software.

It is unbelievable that a little hardware and software upgrade stands between us 03 48re owners and the ability to use an E brake. DC should have known not to but out any autos until they were fully ready. This seems to be a rush to market foopa. I realize that running an E brake on any auto despite thier approval is still not a great idea as autos cannot handle the braking forces like a manual but this is a diesel truck, how in the world did they mess up like this?

Also, pac brake emailed me and stated that thier brake is approved for the 48re. Talk about mixed messages.

Its the Jacobs e-brake. approved for use with the 6-speed, dealer installable, warranteed and all of that. I think the interest is in using the Jacobs brake with the 48RE transmission.
