Smarty UDC Pro and HP Tuners, either one of those will optimize the engine control for the setup.
Who wants to spend $$ on tuning, just about everybody from the proliferation of options. Who would NOT want to optimize for efficiency rather than just stay with the inefficient stock tuning, that is a better question.
Carnage can result from stock parts and a lack of attention as well as replacements, a simple truth a sold as the automobile. Lot less chance of problems if the tuning is toward efficiency and economy though, at those levels the engine is still over built for how it is being used.
The OP has a solid engine in the 305/555 and form the sounds of it a solid platform in the truck. Hard to toss that away JUST to put it back to stock when a $1000 of tuner and tuning will solve the problem and give the best of both worlds.
