I don't know if you could flash the ECM to be compatible with that year. You would need to fine a junk out 2004 ECM / Vehicle and get the VIN# then re-write all the modules to that VIN# , all the modules must have same VIN# or it will throw codes or the skim/WCW module will shut down the truck.

No, you don't need other pistons or injectors or ECU, the 305 setup will run fine with the 325 programming. You basically have to use the ECM for the platform which the 325 ECM and programming. A tuner that allows you to tweak the timing will make the 305 a 325 and more efficient than the deep spray design. A 305 engine in a 325 truck is actually one of the best cross breeds available with a little tuning.

Who said anything about tuning.........and who wants to spend the $$$ on tuning. Cross breeding is BMS seller BS... I've seen the carnage this creates. More efficient LOL.....

Smarty UDC Pro and HP Tuners, either one of those will optimize the engine control for the setup.

Who wants to spend $$ on tuning, just about everybody from the proliferation of options. Who would NOT want to optimize for efficiency rather than just stay with the inefficient stock tuning, that is a better question.

Carnage can result from stock parts and a lack of attention as well as replacements, a simple truth as old as the automobile. Lot less chance of problems if the tuning is toward efficiency and economy though, at those levels the engine is still over built for how it is being used.

The OP has a solid engine in the 305/555 and from the sounds of it a solid platform in the truck. Hard to toss that away JUST to put it back to stock when a $1000 of tuner and tuning will solve the problem and give the best of both worlds.
