Question about Engine Load

05 5.9L won't pass CA smog **UPDATE RESOLVED***

My truck passed smog two years ago. Went to smog the truck today and it said it was misfire and comprehensive components were not ready. Any help would be great.

Clear the codes and\or fix the misfire issue, might clear the other monitors. You might need a flash to get the monitors in a ready state for emissions also, check with a dealer if your truck needs it. If that fails, time for the arbitrator.

Cummins-powered Ram trucks carrying EPA emissions certification were not OBD regulated until January of 2006. This means that any engine with an EPA certification year of 2005 or earlier, which includes the first half of model year 2006, was not required to meet the scan tool information reporting guidelines. There is a calibration update available, but it should not be required to pass the SMOG check, and as such is not covered by a recall. CARB-certified MY2003 trucks, however, are required to comply with the scan tool reporting guidelines, and as such a calibration update for these vehicles is provided under recall K01.

A couple questions come to mind. Did you bring it to the same smog place it passed 2 years ago? Did you have the K01 done?

Here is the deal......2005 ram is exempt From CA SMOG OBDII testing...only year... If they try OBD it comes up with Misfire and Comprehensive Component fail...Only one Dodge dealer in the Sacramento area knew this and they were Auburn Jeep Dodge Chrysler...they told me what to tell smog place.....Low and behold they admitted they were wrong and did the Fed emission test not California. IT PASSED. also found my cert from the the same place two years ago where they did test as a Federal emission.....its been taken care of.. Thanks Guys

My 2007 is a 5.9 and I went round and round with the smog tech when I first smogged it. He kept telling me that I didn't have all the DPF and other exhaust treatment. I finally told him to look at the engine valve cover and also look at my production date on the sticker on the front door. My production date is 12-20-2006. He still went into the Commiefornia ARB website and finally figured out that 2007 model year was a split year for engines and emission components.

My first smog came up with the truck being an 07.5 6.7 auto.
When new I took it into the DMV and they confirmed the Ca certificate on the valve cover and checked the vin. AOK until the smog came due. AAA straightened it out.
My friend's '05's vin came up with no cat necessary. He'still got it but the smog tech said yank it if you want.

I have never had a 'smog' check done on my Ram. When I take it in, all they do is make sure there are no after-market goodies on the engine and that there is a cat...

You paid $ for a smog check. As with any other service you may not have gotten your moneys worth.

Hi,
Can you tell me more about the reason the 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 is exempt from CA SMOG? Mine failed twice recently and the tags are due the end of this month. It passed no problem 2 years ago, but now it shows a misfire monitor. I live in the Auburn area and would appreciate more information.
Thanks,
Jack

When they first started testing in Commiefornia and mine being a 04.5 , the tech called it an 04 and said I didn't need the cat. Well they finally fixed the book
