Hi All,

I just picked up a 2001 3500 dually with 200k on her. If i start it even if its warm and take off rite away the truck seems like it has no power. If you let it warm up for a minute its fine. Today she was warmed up i shut it off let it sit for 5 mins while i went into the store and started it up and took off rite away. The check engine lite came on and it took a bit to get to crusin speed. The codes were 0500 and 1693. I did a carfax on the truck and it showes at 90k the fuel pump and injection pump were replaced. Any ideas on my proble and how to clear the cel? I did a wot test after i pulled the codes with no smoke and it went up smoothly. thanks Larry

i looked up 0500 and it said that it was vehicle speed sensor, 1693 im pretty sure is letting you know there is a code in the computer

you may have a bad lift pump, my 02 2500 had intermittent problems where it was hard to start and surged while driving

we did not catch it in time and had to replace the injection pump $2000. 00

i would check the lift pump they are usually only good for around 100,000 mi

we replaced our lift pump with a fass ddrp and midwest fuel injection did the injector pump

Ok Thank you that was my guess but i was looking for more info. The best way to check the pump from what i read is to use a pressure gauge. What would you recommend electric or manual gauge? i am going to by the spin on cap with a pressure port from Genos but the gauges are from 50 to 200 dollars. Not sure which on people would prefer and why.

Thanks,
Larry

we bought a fuel pressure guage from pep boys about $30

it gave us a reading of 12 psi

i think you want to have 15 psi but not sure

that lift pump goes bad and it does not supply proper pressure to the inj pump which places stress on the diaphragm in the inj pump and that causes it to go bad

you could give midwest fuel injection a call 815-886-9900 for more info

what little i know i learned from them

the guy i talked to was jason

also i wouldnt drive the truck anymore until its fixed if that lift pump is bad its extremely hard on the inj pump
