I have an 06 Quad Cab SLT w/o nav or steering wheel controls. I replaced a standard radio/CD and installed a Kenwood single din w/Kicker speakers. No issues at all.

You are right. I have been accused of having a sharp tongue, didn't mean to sound so caustic. There are a lot of very helpful folks here, just some aren't glued to the screen like the rest of us.

I just did this in my 2006 Mega. No nav, no infinity, no steering wheel controls. You do not need anything but the connector made by either Metra or Scosche that connects the aftermarket HU to your truck's wiring. It works great and I have had ZERO issues. No need for the CAN BUS modules unless you have the infinity system or Nav. I even went out on the ledge and did a double DIN install because I wanted the bigger touchscreen. I bought a Pioneer AHV-3700BS and it has HD radio and siriusXM along with Bluetooth calling which works well despite a little diesel clatter. (worried about that one) I used the stock bezel too. Just cut it with a dremel very carefully. I used the little half rounds out of a Metra install kit and I used the faceplate trim out of the Metra instal kit from an 06 with nav. The two kits together were like $30 bucks and it saved me about $200 by not going with the replacement nav bezel you can get online. I wanted to keep the storage slot under the stock radio.
You can go on youtube and look up the video by DIYBRI and he gives you some good pointers. Looks really good too. I don't mind the little "ears" on either side as the Metra trim piece covers a good portion of them anyways.
I was a bit scared to hack up the dash but it was pretty easy. The HARDEST part is spacing the radio unit out far enough from the dash so that it fits into the hole precisely and looks right. THat took me a lot of tries to fit it just so. All in all...very happy and no issues. Why somebody doesn't come up with a kit to make this easy is beyond me. There is so much room in the dash for a 2-DIN unit that it just makes sense.

If you are inclined, a dealer can provide a replacement dash piece without the "ears" for the double din.

BMelhuish...are you talking about the stock nav bezel? I checked the pricing online and they were running about $240 just for the piece and you lose the pocket under the stock radio which I wanted to keep. I can put up with the "ears" to save $200. Just wanted to give some hope and experience to some out there that want to go 2-DIN without having to spend $$$ on a canbus module or an expenseive dash part. If you are talking about another part you know of...please share!

Yes. The extra money is exactly why I went with a single din rather than a double. I spent the money anyway on a better head unit and speakers. I now have 2 pockets and ear plugs! (There's a joke in there somewhere). Cheers!

I will see if I can figure out how to add some pictures of my setup. I know...no pics...didn't happen. It did and I will asap. I love it though. Phone works awesome even over the Cummins soundtrack. I chose that head unit because it has HD radio and Sirius and the DVD. You don't even need a nav unit because your phone can do it and the BT connection shares it with your radio. That video was super helpful but I guess I am not as handy with a Dremel tool because my lines were not as good as his which is why I went with a trim piece from a Metra dash kit. Looks more "finished" to me too.

As I tell all the Chicago people I work with. I laugh at you this time of year. You laugh at us when we clear 110 and get weeks that don't go below 100.

Northern/midwest/northeast... winter vs. AZ summer
car won't start because battery is frozen, Car won't start because battery is boiled out. Result car don't start
hand freezes to handle of car, hand sears to handle of car, Result missing skn and hurts.
car almost gets warm by the time you get to work/home. Car almost gets to bearable temp by the time you get work/home. Result time to get out of car.
can't go outside with 47 layers of cloths, can;t take off enough cloths to be conforable outside. Result too much trouble to go out.
take vacation where warm, take vacation were cooler. Get out of there.
Can't drive anywhere because roads haven't been plowed. Oh yeah nothing to compare unless you count monsoon flooding.
