Friday night we went shopping 45 miles from home. Came out of the store about two hours later, used remote to unlock the doors and proceeded to try and start. 07 5. 9 6 spd, 3 times started, but only ran a few seconds. Changed the fuel filter, which didn't look to bad, but truck still wouldn't start. It cranks just fine. Dealer has check virtually everything and can't find anything wrong. Check fuel pump, fuel flow, fuel flow at each injector, all okay. No codes in any of the computers, but... the remote control door lock has stopped working, but checks out okay. Help! Luckily I have a '97 as a backup.

starts and runs for a couple seconds and dies + remote lock doesn't work suddenly?

sure sounds like the truck doesn't recognize the key to me.....

could be the key, could be the ECM. i'd ask them to check the ECM and key. key first. have you tried the second key that you probably tucked away for an emergency somewhere?

Do you have a tiny round red dot lighted in the instrument panel?

Three years ago when my '06 was new I decided I didn't like the factory key with remote transmitter head and reasoned (wrongly) that as long as I had the factory key fob in my pocket or on my belt I could use a Wal-Mart duplicate key to start/run the truck. I got in one morning and fired it up about three or four times. Each time it would start and run for a second or two then shut down. Stupidly, I was confused. I'd done it that way for years with my old '01, why couldn't I do it with the '06? I got out the owner's manual and read the correct chapter and went back out and observed the tiny red dot code lighted on the panel that was telling me the security system was unhappy. Pulled out my factory key with remote fob and started it and, with an embarrassed look on my face, knew I had found the problem and it was me.

You might try pulling the ground leads on your batteries for ten minutes to clear the ECM/PCM, then reattach the battery leads and try another key.

It's fixed. The dealer did all of the above, plus a full fuel system checkup, even pulled the injector lines. The fix? New ECM. It did not show any codes, one is supposed to tell the scanner an internal failure has happened. The truck has 83,xxx miles and the "ECM" was COVERED under the emissions warranty which is 5 yrs/100,000 miles. Would have been $2000 for ECM and $1600 trouble shooting it. Great dealer in Columbia, MO, Dodge City.
