1990 f250 cummins swap help

Cummins 4BT Frito Lay Van - For Sale

I hope so, as for the burnbarrel. . I didn't make it . . assigned to work later by th esupervisor on a detail. . oh well. . sucks. . I'll catch one soon. gotta read up on it later.

Thanks,

Deo

Its been awhile. . Carl its 3" intercooler inlet. I did get a upgraded Clutch Hydraulic setup, and I am about to pull the trigger on a oil filter relocation setup, and the interoir insulation. With this warm weather outside I'm itching to get going.

Deo, Excursion is looking good. How did you wire the heater grid coils. Im illiterate when it comes to wiring. I have to wire a set in on a Suburban im doing. Thanks

i haven't wired them up yet. i can do it factory with the intake air temp sensor or manual with just a momentary push button to set the trigger on the relays. . if you only have the grid heater on your swap engine you need to buy or scavenge the grid relay relays. . they are needed to work . . the grid heaters use a lot of juice!... the factory setup uses a temp sensor in the cyl head to cycle the grid heaters on even with the engine running etc till its up

to temp. .

thanks. .

Deo

Hey Deo, About those heater grid coils. Are the small connectors on each of the coils just the trigger for on off? Should I just find the wire thats momentrily hot when the key is first turned on and run that hot to one side of each of the coils and ground the other side? Does it matter which side is hot on the trigger? Thanks

Well the two small wires are just the triggers for the relay / coil.

I cut & pasted / saved this from somewhere and I don't remember where haha. . any how here's another explanation they are real simple even if you don't have the factory relay / coils. .

Thanks,

Deo

"Don't confuse yourself about the ground, It's the same, the 2nd connection just isn't being used, I'll run you through this if you want, I have a Cummins in my ford and I like the manual button for my grid heaters, The automatic cycling of the heaters are a pain in the butt anyway, ( harder on battery/alternator life ) after the motor is running the heaters cycle why tax the alternator/battery for no reason, Anyway put the ground wire from the heaters to a good ground on the intake, The hot wires run to a heavy duty relay, or two relays, (mine has just one ) A starter solenoid from a ford works just fine, Then run a hot wire from the battery to the relay/relays (use a min 4 gauge wire) from the relay signal terminal run a wire to a momentary switch in the cab ( 18/20 gauge wire ) from the other side of the momentary switch run a wire to a ignition controlled hot at the fuse panel (this is preferred but not necessary) Or just find a constant hot termination / wire under the dash Make sure you use a momentary switch or you run the risk of burning your heaters out if you forget it on. "

Slight Update, Its been a while. We Bought a 2005 Eddie Bauer 6. 0L Excursion . its mint condition and is perfect except its a6. 0L lol. . knock on wood I hope to get a chunk of the loan paid off, before / if the 6. 0L dies. If it does im looking a a common rail cummins swap... . argh another thread lol. I'm still going to finish the 12v Excursion project. But now I don't have to worry about a lack of family ride while finishing it. Now that the new 2011 fords have 3. 55 & 3. 31 gears available for 4x4s. Im debating on trying the 3. 31 gear sets out. my first gen dodge has 3. 07 and its great for my application as i don't tow very heavy. The first gen drives nice. Thats about it I i hope to post up more later.

thanks,

Deo

What's happening on the 12v Ferd? Do you know if the ATS manifold on it is a 1st gen Dodge mounted upside down? A co worker wants to do a 12v into an 05 Excursion.

He want to convert it to a stick, probably a NV5600 from a Dodge. Any comments on that ?

I am gonna get back to work on this. Our '05 Excursions blew its head gasket yesterday... ... lol so money wise I am not gonna spend a boat lot of $ to have aredone 6. 0L in there so it will get a cummins . but I already have the 12v excursion 80% finished and can hopefully finish it shortly. Mice ate through one of my leather seats in the garage and chewed most of the foam out argh... . so thats is a problem... hopefully this list of todo will be short.

Shadrach the ats manifold is just a 12v one i had moved it around to try to fit it with the funky twin set i was building. . I am thinking of just a single vgt or something else now...

Thanks,

Deo

Current to do list

- 2 new batteries or swap to 2 group 31's in the aluminum winch bumper I picked up?

- figure out the fuel line fittings to hook up to injector return line and overflow valve return.

- Fix A/C lines, get new dodge compressorand, & install a new dryer.

- figure out turbo setup, want it simple and its tight in there... . maybe Dcreed style suppercharger into the ht3 b i have?. . i havea m90 eaton supercharger already, or a holset vgt ?? either way the hy9 with 6cm housing is coming out...

- figure out remote oil filter setup.

- plumb 4" remote exhaust brake in, put the 4"exhaust back in, possibly add a 4" in out straight muffler. . look for some junk 4" stainless at scrap yard

- Mount electric air compressor and plumb air supply reserve tank. Plumb some remote fill / discharge air chucks, & maybe some air horns.

- Finish up front wiring and reinstall front clip. Possibly change to XL work truck style headlights or '05 and up bolt in style lights...

- Change balljoints to new Moogs, in the 2003 dana 60 3,. 73 front axle.

- buy some warn lock outs.

- get used 373 10. 5 rear axle from salvage yard to match the front. Save for 3. 55 or 3. 31 ratio swap.

- Lengthen front Driveshaft.

- Shorten rear Driveshaft.

- Install stainless flexible brakelines, and bleed em.

- install upgraded clutch slave cyl.

- decide if I keep the modified T code front leaf springs or get v or x codes. . any one have any?

- Buy & install the modified Bilstein shocks from CaryT of the Diesel Stop Web forum. Going with 4 in the front and two in the rear

- Buy and install the Helwig or Ford 30 mm rear sway bar.

- Reinstall my modified rear track / ladder bars.

- Figure out why speedo is not working...

- Fix front blower motor resistor.

- Hook up cruise control.

- Swap in Manual trans instrument cluster, & remove column shifter.

- insulate with dynamat type material

- Install new vinyl floor.

- Reinstall tan leather seats. . look for a 60/40 front bench in leather or cloth with new covers.

- swap out old styel egt and boost gauges to autometers

- figure out the stereo's illumination wire issue. or install another stereo.

- install Aluminum bumper i picked up at Salvage yard.

- Fabricate steel side steps. planning on 2x4 or 2x6 side steps that attach to the frame and are assisted by drop dwon brackets from the stock rocker panel bolt holes.

- install extra rear back up lights.

- install a fuel plate either a # 4 or a 0 plate.

- Install Valet AFC Switch

I need to get the engine ready to fire ie sort fuel line fittings first, sort basic turbo on to it it, new ac compressor, new a/c dryer, go over the old converted/ adapted a/c lines, draw a vacuum. Sort suspension out, - install shocks, tracbar, sway bars end links. probably keep the 4. 10s temp till $ and time to swap the dana 60 in and swap out R&P's. get engine ready to fire up, then close up front end. Move to interior, fix seats, insulate, add the new vinyl floor, install new gauges, fix radio, and speedo. etc...

any ideas?

Thanks,

Deo

Cleaned out the interior again. Cleaned up the leather seats. They had 3 years of dust and grim from garage on them. The middle bench has some foam missing from under the seat. . a mouse decided to eat some of the foam over the last few years . . argh. . got a line on a ulpolstery shop to fix that. Looking to swap a middle jump seat in the front instead of the console. I also got a line on 2 front lariet power heated seats from a f350. The passendger side needs a new cover on the seat bottom, but they are nicer. I may be able to swp my covers on to them? My passenger side stock seat was manual non power etc. I rolled out my new A. C. C. full Black vinyl floor this weekend in the sun, it looks nice. . I need to to install it soon. Decided to do the Sound deadening at least on the floor for now so I don't have to take the floor up to redo it later... Looking at Second Skin products... http://store.secondskinaudio.com/brands/second-skin-audio. I fabricated a nice unboltable floor trans hump too. . but i need to fix it. . argh 3 of the bolt holes are off. I built this over a year ago, drives me nuts . . some how it does not fit now. . not sure how I could have missed that? lol. . and I had primed and painted it too. . lol. . oh well got to cut it and fix it to do it right. Also gonna install the 271 manual shift transfer case too. I'll post up some pictures later tonight. I lost my hard drive at home and lost ALOT of pictures. . tons I am hoping to get a harddrive recovery company to recover the picture. . the truck had a lot of pictures on Picasa Web, but Family stuff is gone. . only hope is a data recovery on that hard drive etc. . crossing fingers. . with 4 young kids. . missing those pictures sucks.

Thanks,

Deo

At times the todo list may seems long but with a list you can prioritize which will save you time in the long run. Hang in there and just keep on moving forward. Are you coming to Columbus? Shad

no columbus, Found the 10. 5 Rear has all the ring gear teeth chipped off... argh gonna step up to 3. 31's from ford... I am building the 2005 excursion at the moment. Its gotten to be big $, I am committed at the moment to finish it, hope to get it on road by end of june. its cost alot, ended up fully rebuilding the engine, new rings, bearings, hone, bulletproof oil cooler setup, diesel site, hpop, rebuilt my injectors etc etc... i bet it could have done the common rail swap for similar cost?...

Ok, Rising from the Dead. LOL .
I am back on this project. Will be finishing it asap. Dropping Driveshafts off today to be cut etc. I have a bunch of parts at the junk yard I'm working on getting home. The Yard has piled a few vehicle too close to each other so I can't get the parts off yet. Hoping to get some new pictures up asap.
Hope to mount a plow on the truck too , as my 'ol 1st gen plow truck is shot. Trying to close on a house and new one has 1100' uphill gravel driveway to maintain.
Thanks,
Deo

Ok lots of updates!,
I Pulled the twin Turbo setup off and swapped in a old medium duty ford manifold that is rear drop. Pulled the h1c from my pull truck and freshened it up. It has 12cm 2nd gen housing and map width groove. It keeps / cleans up the engine compartment.

Put the front end back on, radiators , intercooler, grille etc... Cleaned the storage area out of the the interior. I am installing the ACC Vinyl floor . I finished the back, and middle seat area. Cleaned up my seats installed middle bench and 3rd row. I want to do a 60 40 front bench with fold down center console seat. So I have aline on a clean tan cloth set up at the junk yard. not sure if i should just grab the center seat part and keep the side leather seats, but pull the arm rests off? or get full cloth and just get nice covers? found nice full power and heat tan leather set for $700 but trying to save some $.
Cleaned up a used 271 Manual shift transfer case, Going to pull the 273 electric shift and swap them. Gonna pull the broken ring gear rear end out has 135 k miles on it. Replace it with used 77k mile unit i have. just have to wire wheel and paint it etc. I plan on rebuilding the pulled one and the dana 60 front axle I have sitting here with the new ford 3.331 gears and lockers. but again its a later nice thing i want to do when i have extra $. For now the used 77k 4.10 rear will work. My front dana 50 needs ball joints. I have a set of moogs here, so that has to happen too. grabbed set of used warn hubs from junk yard too.
I am debating the p pump front fuel line situation, I would like to do an dual feed to the lift pump and t my injector return in etc.. I may order the fitting and some teflon lined hose , or reuse the banjo hard lines a to lift pump and run fuel hose from overflow to a t with injector return to the synflex return lines.. The cheap way out.
Have to run I will post new pictures later.
Thanks,
Deo
