I’m looking at upgrading to a 37’ toy hauler and I don’t want to kill or have to purchase a new truck just yet.

My truck is a 2018 2500 ccsb and I have added firestone red label air bags. The trailer I’m looking at is a 37’ voltage triton toy hauler and it’s at 13k dry with a 3k pin.

Will the 68rfe survive towing it through mountains? I’m in the west coast.

Truck is deleted with CTT tuning running stock power with unlocked transmission tuning.

Tires are 295/70r18 Toyo AT2 mounted on method NV HD wheels.

Your over your payload by quite a bit, right at your rear axle rating and when you are loaded will be at your tow rating. 68Rfe will be fine.

I’m with DHayden. Payload on a 2500 is what 2300 lbs and the axle gawr is 6000. Air bags aren’t fixing/changing that. I am far from being weight police but you will be there before you even load the trailer if not above it or load the family Dry weights are notoriously low from the loaded reality
In any case aside from the rear axle rating the rest of the the drivetrain should be ok same as the 3500’s

But the reality is air bags do allow for more weight to be carried. So reality is as long as your tires are not overloaded you should be fine.

I carry 6k pin with two skinny leaf springs per side with bags and at my RAWR.

license the truck to carry your loaded weight.

Tire capacity is what you need to be paying attention to. The axle is more than capable of holding that weight.
I just sold my 38 foot 14k 5th wheel toy hauler and the pin weight was HEAVY. If I remember right it was around 3200 lbs empty, so I made sure that everything we packed was put in the garage, plus the fuel station was full before we were on the highway because the pin weight will lighten up with offsetting weight behind the trailer axles. Thats why the pin is so heavy on toy haulers, so you can load up all your "toys" and not cause a dangerous towing condition with the pin weight too light.
My truck is single rear wheel and I kept the tires at about 85 psi cold while towing that trailer and I had tire pressure monitoring system on all the tires. The Timbrens held the weight surprisingly well too.
Even though I did all I could to make the truck more capable, I can attest that it was just too much trailer for the truck. My CDL allowed me to tow it but I would have rather been pulling it with a DRW 3500. Glad I sold it...

Ok, tire wise the toyo’s are rated at 4K per tire at 80psi so that is fine (I think)

I agree that a 3500 would be a better choice. Maybe I should rethink my trailer option.

Thank you guys! I value the opinions.

Plenty of tire.

There are some airbag kits that mount outboard of the coil springs. I'd look into those.

Although I agree with everyone 2500 isn't best for big trailer, there is way to check a little better: Ask the RV dealer if you can hitch up to see the impact ti your truck. Do a REAL assessment of what your going to carry, where on the RV you're going to carry it, and how much weight it adds. I had genset in front, and 60 gal gas tank under RV garage. Lots of ballast to balance. I saw F250 yesterday lifted, big tires, lifted tow hauler 5th wheel, and terrible weight distribution. Truck was sagging in the rear and wandering all over the road.

I had 40ft Cyclone triple axle that had 3400 lbs pin weight. Water and waste tanks were over and in front of trailer axles. If not dry camping, I only carry about 20 gallons of water in fresh water and always empty grey and black tanks at each RV park.

This can give you a more scientific method of determining what to do.

Please keep us informed what you decide.

Cheers, Ron

The firestone airbags I have mount to the side of the coil spring, I also have a thuren rear track bar already installed.

You can go to MOPAR.com and enter your VIN and get the exact rating for your truck as built. I did it for my 3500 and got Max Payload 3970 lb (1801.08 kg) and Max Towing 25280 lb (11467.13 kg)

That information should be on his door decal if I remember correctly.

Think your grand kids will?
i have no grand kids. but thanks for asking. truth is the world is a much cleaner place than it was in the 70s and 80s. i like the plate because it must make the commies in california suck their collective thumbs and call some therapist after viewing the plate. have a little humor sno.... everything is so doom and gloom on the television. the plate struck me as very funny. thats all. cheers, chris :)
