Having limited results looking for slightly larger tires for a prospective '03. Always liked BFG 285/75 - 16's on my older trucks, but don't see much in that size for 17" wheels. BFG has their mud t/a in that size, but I don't like the growl. And 315's sound too big and tall for a guy my age! Any suggestions?

Still slowly getting used to the smaller shoulder room in the new quad cab...

it's a mud tire, but...

goodyear has a 305/70/17 size in their mt/r tire. they look real sharp and seem to be quieter than most mud tires. procomp also has 305/70/17's in their a/t and m/t and maybe in their x-terrain. .

when i get mine in 9 months or so, i am either going to go with 18" or 20" rims with 33" tires... the amount of $$$ i have will dictate when i do that though...

Actually I thought the 17 inch tire on my 2WD dually seem to fill the wheel well up nicely as opposed to the skinny assed tires they put on them in some past years. As the 17 inch tires become more available, the prices of them will drop. I figure I won't have to worry about replacements for at least three years.

Yeah, Casey, duallies look fine just like they are. It's the single wheel 4wd's that have ALWAYS needed a size bigger tire on them to make them look right! I'll let you know as I research this today. I hear 315's are available, but that's just pretty big. I may have to mount one on a 17" rim and see, maybe not too bad.

I got to bring an 03 home overnight, sure thinking about getting it. I love the way the dash is not white at night - really cool! This one is light almond over silver - really sharp!

Two things I've noticed: Ride is a bit stout, and seat is a bit less comfy than the older ones... Oo.

I paid extra to get the On/Off road optional tires on my 03 Ram HO 3500 4x4 SRW LWB but was disappointed when it came in with 265/70/17 BFG Rugged Trail TA’s. They look more like an all season tread to me, not nearly as aggressive as the BFG All-Terrain TA’s that I’ve purchased in the past. Perhaps Dodge had to use the non-aggressive pattern to meet the EPA noise rules.

Dropped my wife’s car off for service at a dealer last night and they had three of the new Hummer H2’s in stock. I really liked their tires, BFG 315/70/17 with a tread that looked like the old All-Terrain TA’s that I’ve used in the past. I’ve added these to my wish list along with running boards, exhaust brake, etc.

Mark congrats on your new truck. I've seen those tires on the Hummer H2s too. Where you work you should have the options to get all the goodies:D .

Saw a 2500 at a dealer last night that had the 285/70/17 Michelins. They look way too much like street tires, IMO. Do the Goodyears have more aggressive tread??

It would be nice if 285/75/17 were available... at least they'd fill the wheel wells a bit better.

I understand that 315/75's are available from BFG in the all terrain tread that I like. Not cheap (probaby $215/), but orderable. They have the nicest overall "not too street/not too mud" tread that lasts for many a mile.

My tire man tells me they'd be about 3. 5 to 4 inches in diameter taller than stock 265's. That sounds a bit much for my taste, as I really like those 285's!

How bigga fella are ya ?

Doug,

I,m 6'3" and wear a 48 long coat and I don't feel crowded. In fact it seems like more of a streach to rest my left arm on the door handle than it was on my '01. I will admit the interior appears to be much smaller, but I still have plenty of room for comfort.

BTW you should have seen the guy that bought my '01, he filled up the drivers seat. He had to put the seat all the way back, recline it, and it took both of us to get his seat belt buckled:eek: .

Fireman

Fireman,

I'm 6'4", and about 350(which is not really the problem - it's the height and shoulder room). I need about 51" sleeves. But at any rate, I'm pressed against the door pillar. I can't see how any size guy woudn't be, if they have the seat back.

I was asked if I wanted side airbags as an option, to which I replied "Don't know, never tried any of them. "

Mark I agree those are bad ass looking tires. If they would fit they would look great. Will they fit?

I'm 5'11 190, and MY truck feels J U S T right!

(Didn't goldilocks do this one already??)

I need to know if those BFG 315's will fit without trouble too! I think thats what I want on mine, I've worn out many a pair before, never a lick of trouble. There are none in Arizona to even try on!

If I'm not mistaken I believe the 315/75's are the equivalent of a 35/1250... ... . if they are you definately will have to have some lift in the front to put these under your truck. I had a 2001 with 35/1250's and I raised the front 2. 5 inches and they would still rub a little if I turned real sharp.....

Well, here's some good news;

The tire dealer showed me a bulleting they received from BFG, that announces the all terrain's will soon be released in 285/75-17's.

I sized up a 285 against a 315, and there's almost no difference in height - but 2 to 3 inches wider. I can't imagine that height being an issue, but perhaps the width might rub somewhere, or hang out and sling stuff.

The dealer also told me that there is a show the first of Nov that announces all the new

pardon me, I hit the wrong button...

I was saying that all the manufacturer's new wheels are due to be released in first of November. He suggested waiting to see what all comes out.

Greetings Mark

It is hard to find an aggresive tread pattern in any size tire with a load range of E. Most people do not like the noise or feel of Mud Terrain type tires so Dodge doesn't make them an option.

Congrats on your new rig. I assume this will be the test bed for your future product line??:D ;) If you need a real world tester I have an 03' that is just begging to be adjusted. I miss the power of my 95' a lot:{ :{

I too have the 285's on my truck and feel its just right for it. I was hoping to get a set right away for the new truck since the local Les Schwab will give a fairly good deal on your stock tires if they have only traveled from the dealer to their shop. Looks like that isnt going to happen though. Of course I have until I sell my current truck before the issue comes to a head...

Here's what I've found this week;

There are BFG A/Tko's available in 315's for 17". I have a set of them coming. They are about 3. 5in total diameter taller than stock 265's. If you don't like the added height, Pro Comp makes one of a really similar tread that is the same height, but considerably wider, and not a bad look - saw one mounted up. If the bfg's are too tall, I'll go with the pro comp's.

Don't know when the 285 bfg's will be available, but I'm starting to think that won't be big enough of a change on these new 17" rims!
