The 225/70/19. 5s are virtually identical in height as the 265/70/16s.

If you will go to Ricksontruck.com they have a really slick little app that you can plug in your specs on tires and it will tell you the the ratio EQ and the speedo change difference. But with the 225s, I doubt you will see any difference.

With my truck, my speedo was slow 3 mph from the factory. After I installed the 225s, my speedo is dead on with my GPS and the roadside radar devices in work zones.

When I step up to 245s, I'll pick up another 3 mph.

Last but not least, lets bring this into focus... ... ... . If you were to have a new set of Michelin 265/70/16/17s installed on your truck, you would spend at least $850... ... ... ... ... ... ... . If you buy the Visions, you get WHEELS and TIRES... ... ..... and a set of tires that will probably out last a new set of LT tires... ... ... ... .

I have the Rickson wheels but they need tires. Anyone care to comment on M+S 245-70 19. 5 tires. I am looking for something as quiet as possible.

I have michlin 245 19. 5's

not very quite more loud as they wear.

check the vision wheels offset, i believe they set out further than the aluminum wheel rickson used to sell. with stock wheels on my truck i still have rocks hit the outside of the fenders. and anything sticking out further would make it worse.

just my 3 cents worth. (devalued currency).

I had hancooks and they were noisy and cracked into the side walls at 50,000 miles. My local tire dealer for 19. 5s says he will sell me dunlaps for about $250 each. This is a 2003, 4wd -DRW. Any one have any experience with the M/S dunlaps in the 245/70-19. 5s ? I would sure like to get 100k out of my next set of tires. Also mention I pull #18,000 fifth with 3000 pin weight, so good tires are a must.

New to TDR-long time reader (Dad was member for years-turned chevy man for 2012), please dont hammer on me if this is been discussed here many times and I didnt find it in my search, just need help making the correct decision for the long haul.

DMorris,

I have found the folks at Rickson to be very forth coming with information. If I were you, I would call or email them with your question.

Bet they have the answer... ... ...

That is a good idea ! They did sell me the Hankooks and told me they were great. They were incorrect on that, not intentionally I am sure, but I have talked to two companies that run medium trucks (flat bed towing) that laughed and said all those Hankooks cup and wear bad. Again, not saying Rickson sold me bad tires intentionally: but it seems well known that those tires were not the cream of the crop. I just want to be sure I do a little better this time is all. I will give them a call and see what they say. Seems that I dont hear too many people talking about dunlaps.

@Duluth Diesel, it says "no matches found" when I click on your link. I currently have 22. 5s on my '03 and would consider "trading down" to 19. 5s, as the damn truck just sits too high now!

I didn't know that Dunlop tires were stil made. I don't think I've heard of anyone buying them since the '50s or '60s. I don't have specific knowledge of them but they are certainly not a popular tire.

If you are a member of SAM's Club you should be able to special order a set of Michelins in 19. 5" size at an attractive price. I don't know but assume COSTCO will special order also.

If you are pulling an 18k fiver on a srw truck I would not settle for anything less than Michelins. Cheapest would not be my goal, best tire would be my goal.

Rickson 19. 5's here with stock hubcaps. Well worth it for me when hauling.

I went with Bridgestone R250F's on the steer. Firestone 690's for Drives.

Hey Guys! How about some pics of these wheels? :)

Bridgestone M729F on Rickson steel wheels.

I'm very happy with these wheels and tires. I was initially concerned about their grip in the winter after reading some of the comments but no longer. They are much better than the stock A/S Michelins. The folks at Rickson were also great to work with.

I recently purchased a set of DRW Vision 19. 5 wheels for my truck. I got their Heavy Haulers, the rims are 6. 75"s wide. I have been looking at tires, I think I am going to go with either the GoodYear G-622RSD Traction tires or the Bridgestone M729F tractions. I am leaning in the direction of the GoodYears. Now all I have to decide is if I want them in 245's with 9. 7 tread width, 33. 5" tall or in 265's with 10. 4 tread width, 34. 8" tall. Both the 245's and the 265's will fit my rim width. I had been running 35's which are actually 34. 5 tall and 12" tread width, so the 265's will fit without any concern.

Going to the 19. 5 wheels is actually a really good choice. The wheels are rated higher than the stock wheels, the tires are rated higher than the stock tires, tire replacement costs are comparable to the stock tire prices as well. The materials used for the 19. 5 tires is harder, so tire life IS much longer, the sidewalls have considerable more strength, just better and safer in the overall, no brainer, good move.

BTW, Dunlop does make tires for 19. 5's, but they are all steer tires or used mostly for trailer tires. I personally would not use them for either. While Michelin may make a decent tire in 17" for stock applications and people like them, the guys with 19. 5's pretty much all say the same thing - don't waste your money, they are lousy, don't get any better useful life than about 50K, must be their materials are not as good?? I have never been impressed with Michelin tires. When my truck was new, before I bought it, the only way I would buy it was if the dealer put something else on it, and they did.

Really? I agree, they're no Michelin or Goodyear in terms of popularity, but they've definitely sold a few tires since the 60's. I've used many of their performance passenger car tires myself. I haven't used their light/medium truck tires, but used their heavy-duty tires on the fleet of tri-axle dump trucks I ran. Prices were close to Chinese tires and treadwear/performance were close to premium quality tires. Win/Win!

The Dunlop brand of road tires (for Asia, North America, Europe and the UK) is owned by Sumitomo and Goodyear, through a series of agreements that took place in 1984 thru 1986.
