190's on order, how do I change them?

Got some 190 injectors comming for the black 93 trailer tow-er, so now I need info on how to change them. I did a search but could not find what I was looking for. 22 days left before we leave for the Vegas mopar show

Changing injectors is really not much more difficult than changing spark plugs... .

First loosen and remove all the return line fittings..... make sure you pull the copper U washers and set them aside. Set the return line out of the way.

Remove the nut from the top of each injector. Remove the clamps that hold the lines together so the lines can be flexed waway from each injector.

Loosen and remove the retaining nut for each injector... (24mm? socket ) I forget the exact size.

Thread the injector line nut back onto the injectors finger tight. Now take a large screwdriver or prybar and put the tip under the edge of the injector line nut. Pry... give a sharp "pop" to the handle of the screwdriver to lift the injector out of the hole. . it should come out fairly easily. If not give it another pop. (the only ones I couldn't get out were ones that I forgot to remove the nut on :-laf )

Once the injectors are out, make sure the copper washer comes out. Then clean out the injector hole and seat.

I used a pistol cleaning brush for this and a screwdriver and a rag. Make sure the seat for the new copper sealing washer is clean.

Now use the thinnest washers in the set for the new injectors. Coat the new injectors with anti-seize (aka blind grease) and insert into the hole, making sure the ball is oriented into the slot in the head. Secure with the retaining nut to the proper torque... ... . or "gutentight" as I did.

Install the square sealing o-ring that will keep moisture/corrosion out.

Reinstall the fuel line nut.

When all the injectors and lines are back in place, re-install the line clamps.

The reinstall the return lines.

Try to start the engine... it may take a few cycles to get it to fire up... it should self bleed. It may run rough for a few seconds until all the injecotrs are going.

Now go out and floor it and smile at your new found power.

Go home and have a cold beer or four and brag to your wife/girlfriend or buddies about how much more power you truck has.

Next day... .

Blow the doors off of a Ford diesel and everything else on the road and chuckle to yourself :-laf

Caution don't bend the injector lines, loosen the clamps enough to allow them to flex away from the injector.



Caution don't drop the brush into the injector hole, use some rubber hose (vacuum or window washer tube) & push it over the end of the brush.

You need to adjust the pump to get the most out of the injectors. Bushwacker has a good procedure in the archives.
