2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission 1995 Standard Cab sleeper conversion

I recall some years back that the TDR highlighted a company that does custom sleeper conversions on standard cab trucks. They cut out the back of the cab and extended new walls into the bed area. Would prefer to keep my '95 12 valve but need more interior space for road trips. Ideas anyone?

It was Vic McKinley, McKinley Custom Conversions. I did it to my 95 and it's been great. Shortly after I had it done, Vic and his family moved closer to Dallas TX. I have not been able to find them as of late. Another option is Cowtownsleepers.com. Those are fiberglass. The one I have from McKinley's is aluminium. If anyone finds them, let me know. He does awesome work.

If you google "truck sleeper cabs" or variations on that wording you should find severafl companies doing the conversions.

There was a good one near Elkhart, IN, perhaps Middlebury or Shipshewanna, IN. I toured their facility and talked with them when I was working in the area. I don't remember their company name. The downturn in the RV industry could have taken them out but they looked pretty solld two years ago.

The sleeper conversion that Harvey referred to is Double Eagle in Shipshewana. The truck must be extended for the conversion.

Another sweet sleeper conversion is Roadmaster in NC. Also requires frame extension. Both Roadmaster and Double Eagle are pricey though.

to bring up a dead thread, I'm looking into this type of conversion, right now.

I'd like to just buy a QC truck, but that's not in the current rhelm of reality.



Beetle, what's yours look like inside? I've seen some that have the 'added' seat facing rearward, with an access door in the bed. Not really feeling that. .

My 94 had a McKinley conversion, it was very good, lots of room.

I'm still contemplating doing something like this. Only real drawback for me, is that it would nix any gooseneck towing, unless the trailer was V'd at the hitch.
