I am working on a 98 12 valve that died in a guys yard(after driving home) and can't get it restarted. Fuel filter was recently changed. I can prime and get fuel coming out the outlet line on the fuel filter housing and there is also fuel pumping out there when cranking. The fuel shutoff solenoid is engaging and I can see the shaft move that goes through the pump. The thing that seems odd to me is that I can't get any fuel to pump out the overflow valve with it loosened, I thought I could always push fuel through the pump in the past. No fuel at the injection lines either. I am wondering about the lift pump but it is moving some fuel for sure.
Thanks for any suggestions,
Matt

My Mule did something similar last year when I it/him/her started up and died. I was able to prime it and would start but died with 10 to 20 seconds. Had it towed to my Mechanic. He took the overflow valve apart and said the ball was stuck down on the bottom (apparently in a line or fuel outlet). He got where it started and ran good but closing in on 300,000 miles I decided to put new one in. We did try to start it the next day(with old OV) but it was hard to start and ran bad. So we put the new one. Been starting and running good since then (the ball had got stuck on the bottom of the OV ball again). He said if their is to much pressure in the pump it will shut down(will not pressurize the fuel?).

I ended up deleting the fuel heater and replaced the lift pump. Plumbed and hotwired the FASS pump off my own truck to the injection pump to get it started. It ran fine after hooking the mechanical pump back up but replaced it anyways. Not sure why it originally died.
Thanks for the help.
Matt
