You know, it's like taking a keg to an AA meeting talking trucks here.

My wife thinks I'm nuts cause I can rattle off my ESN and CPL from memory.

Men and trucks, it's a good thing

HHH we have an annual march man round up at my buddies place at spring town. You outa stop by for a cold one. It's sometime in march. :)

Nyoest: No I haven't learned to try using the iphone for pics yet. Been a Sh*tty week. I'm glad to see you have some deer to cook for dinner! My buddies had no luck all week. Not one stinking deer. Maybe too many cars and trucks killed them off. There's been many reports of vehicles hitting deers. No deer in front of my moose pusher yet. Your wife must be very pleased.

HHhuntitall: Man that's a lot of trucks in your life. My job doesn't allow that kind of work. Too much time and not enough $$. Hard enough trying to do the projects I already have. Have to do other part time jobs to make $$ to do my favorite things like going to, representing TDR as VP at TDR events with Bschwarzli and paying the #@&% bills. Soon, I'm hoping to get a better job. I grew faster at what I do than what the job can do to keep up. #@$%!

Bschwarzli: Talking Borg is Hilarious, they got shot down and run over by HHhuntitall at every corner. Him, tough Texas attitude, his big *** gun and trucks, shooting and putting the borg down. :-laf:-laf I'm sure some that went to the white house is trying to assimilate the president with no luck either. President probably convinced the Borg to go to Area 51. Who knows what happens there. Maybe they became spare parts. :-laf

Only quitters go to AA!!!!

What's wrong with that?!?!? I've got several memorized.....:eek:

Hmmm, sounds like a black smokin' good time..... :D Let me know, I'll be all up for it!! That's 'little 'round an hour from my Denton Co. place. In early March, I'm usually pretty free to roam, depending on the weather!! I won't remember until after, probably, since I'll be hunting and playing. Warm weather brings out the toys that I've worked on all winter!! Oo. ..... and since I sold the 5/8's ton, I'm wanting to build up another one... ... something that's... . hmmm..... big... . :--)

Sorry to hear you no see'um deer!! You're not a closet vegetarian, are you? JK!! Sorry you had a bad week. It's only Monday, so I feel for ya. I was pretty down yesterday... . stressed would be more like it. Too much to do to get to play and enjoy it!! One reason I've sold so much crap since the first of the year!!! When I had the time, I didn't have the money. Now I've got the money, I've not got the time!!

Ahh, they probably got to the white house, and decided they'd throw out anything they didn't want, so they didn't change much of anything..... and they ain't seen my big guns, yet!! :D I'd have to line up 3 or 4 just to justify the cost of shooting that thing!!! The 260, 223, and 284 are much more economical to eradicate tyrants with. Just ask the USMC. Well, they prefer the . 223, 308, 338, and 50, but I'm on more of a budget... ... and I'll only run over the ones I have to. I hate flats.

HA HA HA HA!! That's hilarious HH!:-laf:-laf

No vegetarian here, just had a nice juicy 20oz T-bone cooked blue rare tonight. The largest I ate was a 28oz of the same thing last winter. Yummy! :-laf

Yeah the Borg tend to do that, throw stuff out that's not worthy of ASSimilating. :-laf

They may be the ones responsible for the phaser fire that melted a hole in Bschwarzli's fuel tank. We'll have to hunt 'em down. :-laf

If you have Toyo M/T's, getting them flat is hard to do. Mighty thick rubber there. Had a 1. 5" screw in there already and no leaks after it was pulled out. Maybe the big gun can do the job but I'm sure you still hate flats!:-laf

Ya know... . now that you mention it, I bet Bschwarzli's got a secret weapon he's been experimenting on... ... I'm not sure how a phaser would cut through the tank without setting the diesel off... ... . I saw the pics, that big round hole, looked more like a plasma type torpedo... .:-laf

Man, the Toyo's have been a good tire, but a few weeks ago, I bought several to reshoe the '93 and '97, and one set to sell; they won't balance!! Two were taking over 15oz with one taking 22 and asking for more!!! I don't like there to be over 6-7!! Every one of those M/Ts took at least 9!! I took 'em to a friend's shop just 'cause I thought I might have screwed up or there was something wrong with my balancer. Same thing. He couldn't even balance two of 'em!!! I sent them back to Toyo, but they have to evalauate them, and my truck is sitting on jackstands at the moment!!!

I've mounted thousands of tires, and these were the worst I've ever seen!!! I've several sets of my own that aren't even balanced and they run out just as smooth. The ranch trucks seldom wear the tread off, as they'll run over a tree stump or big nail, or they'll seperate before they get worn out.

The set I bought to put on a customer's truck went back. I wouldn't mount them, and he didn't know any better. We'll see what Toyo says, as the worst two went back to them. #@$%! The tread works, good, though. I like 'em. Also really like the Mickey Thompson Baja Claw. Nice mud throwers, there!! And they actually drive good!!

HH - OMG you are funny!

And dang you have/had/will have a lot of trucks! Crum!

Nyoest - Whats wrong with knowing CPL, ESN, and VINs off by heart? I do that for several of mine! :D

EDIT: Yes, I have a multiphasic photon torpedos I have been playing with. The tank was a misfire! ;)

HHhuntitall: that's sad to hear the toyo's are giving you trouble now. I really like them. I've got beads inside them now but have driven for 1. 5 years without balancing them. I think the colder climate up here made them hop a bit when cold until they warmed up. Now the tires have some shake in them and the beads helped to smoothen them out. There's almost 70,000 k's on them with a little mud life left, then it'll wear the rest of the way on the highway before being replaced. I hope Toyo's are still good with their tires when I go to buy another set next spring. I have Toyo winter tires, not nearly as tough as the m/ts but a very good winter set.

Sounds like you had Baja claws on your trucks already. How did you like 'em?

I think you're correct that it's more possible that it's a plasma or photon torpedo that blew a hole in the tank. :-laf

Bschwarzli: ha ha ha! That's hilarious! A misfire with the multi-phasic weapon blew up the tank. That happens to almost everyone when testing new products. Unfortunately you were on a trip when the weapon set off. You should be glad you got back before the military figured out where the explosion came from. :-laf

Sray- The Baja Claws have been great so far. They're not balanced, so they've got a little shimmy to one of them. But that could be the Dodge wheel... ... it met a telephone pole one night chasing poachers... ... . and the fence I had to fix was my own... . :( They got away that night, but two weeks later, I got 'em, and that little Ford engine was having a hard time keeping oil and water in the block... . :D

Anyway, I need to get the wedge of wood out of the bead. That'd help..... may do that tonight.

Bschwarzli: Was that a weapon malfunction or a problem with the guidance system? I've had problems with my remote camera guided . 22 before..... You know you're supposed to test that on small foreign cars before putting it on the road, right? :D

As for the trucks, that's what I like to do. I hate I don't have time for all of them anymore, but life's like that. I hated they were sitting there rusting away, not getting driven, and I needed the money to get the wife a new car. The Cherokee was getting on up there in the 6 digit range, and the interior was coming apart... ... . That's what a good husband and father would do, so that's what I did. Still got more than enough to play with, so no biggee. Got the '85 in the shop that's been there for 6 yrs. It runs, just needs a driveshaft to go get painted and then put together. But what am I doing? Talking on the internet!!!! And now... ... to order parts from Orielly's!!

HHhuntitall: Seems it doesn't matter where we buy our brands from, or what brands they are, they always seem to have a s. h. i. t. t. y batch. I'm happy my set turned out good, but some have had problems and refuse to buy the same brand again. You like Mickey Thompson's, my friends hate them and refuse to buy again. We like Toyos some people hate them. Go figure :-laf

Was your adventures with the poachers recent? You just proved why gm diesel trucks sucks. If you had hit a telephone pole with a gm truck, the front wheel would be completely broken off by the ball joints. Then you would've been left there like Yosemite Sam shooting your pistols off at the pricks. :-laf:-laf

Here's my buddy's duramax after he hit a pole in the parking lot.

View attachment 78847

Close up of no tire or steering knuckle.

$17,000 damage to the truck

When you saw them guys again, what were they doing or was the truck just parked there and you shot up the engine like swiss cheese?

I'm hoping the Toyo's get warrantied by the Lot Number..... maybe. Dang, what was you're buddy doing? Pole shopping? Trying to total his truck so he could get a Dodge? Was my wife driving?

One of my good friends has one, and it's a piece. I spent $3300 in parts just to get it running again. I basically rebuilt the whole injection system. And it had California Emissions!! It's a miracle I got it put back together!! Then, a week later, after installing new tires, it had a vibration, which I felt was a U-joint or shaft weight. I told him we needed to pull it and fix it, and he went ahead and drove it. The vibration made the transmission casing break off the back of the transmission!!! Seems the u-joint was the issue!! Another $2500, and that had to go to the dealer! Now the front end is all out of wack, and I'm not touching it again. I told him to go buy a Dodge if he wants me to work on it!! So guess who owns a 2002... ... which is sitting in my yard...

The poachers were on the county road, spotlight in hand. I'd called the County Sherriff and Game warden, but where these guys are at, you can't sneak up on them, and they can go several ways. They've gotten away from everyone, including me. They're pretty good. But when I'm hunting coyotes (4 legged) and I'm laying in the grass, it's hard to know I'm there... ... :D I called the game warden, and he was hesitant about coming to get them. I told him,"Oh, don't worry, they won't be far!" That had him a little concerned, I think, so he came pretty quick. They weren't far from me when it finally died. Seems as it passed me, it developed a small hole in the block, just above the driver tire... ... something entered the hole and broke all kinds of crap!! Not sure how it got there, but I bet it looks like a piece of Tungsten rod... ... :D One had a FTA warrant from another county, and the other was out on parole. He wasn't supposed to be anywhere near any kind of firearms or alcohol; both were in the truck. Niether will be coming back, I'd wager. Or the truck. The local LEOs don't condone it, but all the guys they catch on the side of the road have warrants are have been in trouble quite a bit. The officer's think it's kinda funny. And it's only something you can get away with in TX or OK.

The only one that wasn't a regular was an AA pilot. He shot a deer in my wheat field in broad daylight, and was gutting it, in my field, when I walked up to the edge of the field. I called the Game Warden, he was 30 minutes away, and then, mysteriously, something fell from the sky..... 3 somethings, and dang if they didn't have a collison with the front tire, engine block, and frame a time or two. The pilot didn't like the noise overhead, and ran for his truck, only to discover it had had an accident... . but watching him try to jump a 5 wire, 5 ft fence, and then crawl out the passenger door to hide in the barditch was priceless!!! He didn't even bother to take his rifle, it was still in the truck when the Game Warden showed up, and the guy tried to say the deer had jumped the fence after being shot, after crying for 20 minutes about some idiot shooting at him. Game Warden just responded,"I didn't hear anything... . " The deer had green wheat in it's mouth and half a stomach full..... the old Bronco got towed, and I haven't seen it since. Good thing no one was shooting at him. POI was 2" low on the first projectile. The other two were right on the POA. And it wasn't even a BIG buck, it was just a nice 8 point, who got too close to the road. A deer lease would have been cheaper for the guy.

I hate spotlighters. I've got pictures of a baby calf, probably a week old, that had his whole face shot off. Just his lower jaw is there, in front of his eyes. I saw the spotlighters, but didn't think anything about it until the next morning, when I found the calf. I had to put him down, and I was slightly irate!!!! I started making complaints to the Co Sherriff, so there was paperwork, including filing a complaint and pictures of the calf and a cow that had a bullet hole in here skull, so if I ever get sued, I've got justifiable cause in Texas for defense of property and livelihood. I haven't had any problems in a while. Word of mouth spreads fast, I guess. I lost a good bay dog, several cows, and who knows how many deer over the last 10 years.

Yeah likely a bad lot of tires. I hope the warranty goes through. I don't really want to go to another brand tires at the moment as I really love the toyos. I've had Kumho a/t, bfg a/t, bfg rugged trail, michelin m/s, bridgestone a/t revo, toyo m/t, toyo g-02 winters. And watched closely at lots of my buddies trucks on how tires are behaving. So far the toyo m/t, toyo g-02 winters were the best for me. I like the Bridgestone a/t revo, wears fast but awesome wet/dry traction. The Bridgestones sucks for toughness. My goat is tough and need shoes like steel toe boots. :-laf

As for my Duramax buddy Cory there, he was driving out of parking lot when he looked back to make sure his contractor trailer was clearing the cars around him while he was turning. I don't think he paid much attention to what was in front of him until too late. I think he may have been going 10-15 kph and the weight of the trailer behind him which was heavy, I think shoved the truck a little further.

This is the forth truck I've seen this happen to the front tires. :-laf

My one other buddy Matt swerved to avoid a stupid female driver with his duramax, hit the curb on the street and BOTH front wheels were knocked off at the same time at the steering knuckle and ball joints. Even the oil pan was slit open. Since no brakes left, truck hit tree 15 ft from street and tweaked the frame a bit. Insurance pegged the damage at $31,000.

I told him that was the stupidest suspension setup I've ever seen built by GM. A major safety hazard created by GM that supposedly spent $250,000,000 to make the smoothest and blah blah blah. He said to me that GM designed this system for safety in the event of a crash and the design performed the way it was built by engineers. #@$%! YEAH RIGHT! I know better. I wouldn't even take a GM truck to the Baja Off-road competition let alone a little curb. :-laf

So far Cory has spent $50,000 on the same truck (including buying the truck for $20,000) in 3 years. The truck is being fixed right now for $17,000 including straightening the frame. I told him to buy a Dodge, problems solved, just a little here and there to make them better, then it's all set to save him money. "NO!" said Cory, "I'm a die hard GM guy, Dodges are not for me. "

Injectors have already been replaced, next maybe allison transmission, maybe rear end, then injectors again, transmission again, rear again. Never ending cycle.

Sounds like Ranch life can be fun! Stupid guys. Poor calf and cow, needless suffering.

Maybe someday I'll drive down to Texas with my trusty goat and look you up. Might make for an interesting post on TDR forums. :-laf If I do come down, I'll give a hand for a week. ;) Should be fun finding a motel in all these large ranch lands.

Yeah, independent just doesn't work for heavy duty. Why else hasn't Pete or KW come out with one??!?! They tried a few back, but never could get it to hold up. Straight axle is the only way to carry the weight reliably down the highway. And then, to make it 4x4!!! Yeah, I see 'em all the time, low miles, tires worn half off... . makes you wonder if they even thought about it before they bought one. Nice inside, but I gotta have one that will get me there AND back.

Ranch life is a lot work. This week has been pretty easy, as I'm half loafing in the shop, waiting on parts. Good time to do some painting and detail work. This project I'm on should have taken a week... . it's going on it's 4th!!

If you get down to Denton, there are quite a few hotels within 10-15 miles. Out West? ..... uhhhh, not so much!! Not much for 40 miles in any direction!!! :D I've got an old 20ft travel trailer I stay in sometimes when I'm farming at Rule, but here lately, I've got a buddy that bought a house at Old Glory, so I stay with him; it's only 10 miles. He's divorced and living by himself, so he's glad to have the company. Especially when I come in and start cleaning the mess!! I can't stand sand on my bare feet in the house!! And Dirty dishes... . and a dirty shower..... defeats the purpose of getting clean!!! OCD, I guess. At the HQ ranch, I've got another house, so that's pretty nice. Foreman's house is about 400yds East, with the horse barns just East of that.

My trailer is so small(and cheap made), I keep breaking things!! I'm kinda an ogre, so when I walk I half to turn sideways to get from one end to the other. The little bathroom is so small, I have to shower sideways, too!! Then, I'll go to bed, and I'm so tall I have to sleep cross corners on the queen bed to fit!! I got up the other night and bumped into the stove. I broke it loose from it's tiedowns and chipped the edge of the famica countertop!! I reared back and hit my back on the overhead bunk, which I had down to stow some stuff, so I slammed it up, and broke the panel door that's used for storage!! Then, the next day or so, I slipped on the wet floor and grabbed the door sill to catch myself, and crushed the aluminum door seal so bad air and daylight get in, and busted a hole the shape of three fingers in the paneling!!! The aluminum screen door had to be shaved off to close all the way..... The step broke off a long time ago, so I've got concrete blocks, and one of them collapsed!!! I was hooking up the propane bottles, and twisted off one of the plastic collars, and then twisted off the garden hose fitting!!! It was a bad day!! I took a shower with a hose with a piece of broken plastic on the end. Such is my life!! :D It's always interesting, though!! Makes you REALLY appreciate it when a day goes well!!!

HHhuntitall: Correct, solid axle is the way to go. Funny, Tractor manufacturers are now trying IFS. Like the John Deere 7000 and 8000 series. So far happy farmers and no one to tell me if they're junk.

My 2130 John Deere hit a solid chunk of concrete block buried in the snow while going 15 mph. block flew out, tire exploded, snow everywhere, butt of tractor in the air, I'm almost laying on the hood (maybe should install seatbelt). No broken front axle, bent the rim, 1 foot slit in tire tube. Everything all fixed, straightened, new tube, etc. Back to work. :-laf

Sounds like a small trailer you have or you're a 7 footer :-laf

Ranching is hard work, just like farming up here, different but always working.

And we have plenty of Dodge trucks around us working the farm and pulling 50,000lbs gcw with truck and trailer, etc. Always fun!:-laf

Sand on the feet ain't too bad compared to the sand burrs. I got introduced to those damnable things first time I went south and was bare foot. Between them And the fire ants a guy can have a real good time.

HHH hang in there, it can always get worse :D

Nyoest: what are sand burrs?

We call them "Goat Heads" they are hard stickers that have three points, no mater how they lay, one sticker is pointed up and they are hard, like a mesquite thorn. When ya step on one you are gonna yell:-laf They stick to your shoes, then ya bring them in the house.

NIsaacs: Ugh!! That's s. hitty. Mother nature always have surprises for us. Bad enough I got poison ivy 2 years ago.

Now that is funny!!! ... a little too much so because until 3 weeks ago, my pregnant wife and I and our year old daughter had been living in a camper full time. Kindof an unplanned thing I suppose. I bought the camper to use for a month and then sell. Well, we got married, took off in the camper on our honeymoon to Alaska... and then plans changed. My wife's first day back to work, and they told her she was fired, and we had two weeks to get out of the employee unit apartment building we were living in. Obviously we had no money at all, as we had just spent our life savings on the wedding and honeymoon. Needless to say, the camper became our home for an extra 14 months! Lots of good memories I suppose... :) The '06 Dodge we took to pull the camper has unfortunately got the raw end of the deal. We made it back from the trip with both lower ball joints sheared off. Having to drive like this completely wallered out the inner axles/ujoints. A month after getting back, the front driveshaft exploded, busting the electronic gizmo motor on the transfer case. And a week later, teeth fell off 4th and 6th gear on the G56 transmission. At some point, the AFE air box rubbed a hole through the a/c line and all the refrigerant expelled. The rough Alaskan roads shook my overhead gauges loose and they're dangling by the wires. The black bear we ran over ripped off the passenger mud flap and dented the running boards pretty good :( I had to cut $350 worth of Levi's turbo blankets off of the turbos and manifold etc on the side of the road in Kansas to check things out because I thought a blew a head gasket. The reed valve in the Air Zenith compressor broke off and dropped into the piston and ruined the cylinder head leaving us without an exhaust brake for the latter half of the trip. The traction bar on the passenger side came loose as the threads wallered out at some point. And I think the gauge cluster has shorted out, because now that I'm not driving it (for the above reasons), the new Optima yellow tops are pulled down dead in about 9 days. I did manage to pull it in the garage though to prevent any more rain water from accumulating in the rear under seat storage... I think there was enough water in there for a school of minnows and a decent sized crappie to swim around without bumping fins. Needless to say, out of money, newly wed and broke, wife without a job, a kid and another on the way, and trying to remodel a foreclosure house has left no money for the poor '06. It's been keeping the garage occupied for about 9 months now... hopefully for Christmas I'll get a new transmission :)

Nyoest: what are sand burrs?

O. M. G. You are truly blessed if you don't know what a sand burr is!!! Down here, we have goat heads, and THEN we have sand burrs!! The goat heads are pretty bad. I get 'em in the tires of the lawn mower and have flats, as do the kids on their bicycles. Lots of tire slime around here... ... They grow on short, flowering vines, and can take over open ground. Roundup applied early can kill them, as can 2-4-D. After blooming, a woody stem chemical like Remedy or Reclaim is needed. They'll still make a few burrs, even after being poisoned.

As stated a Goat burr has three thorns. One is always up, as they are shaped like a goats head, one thorn down like a goats nose, and two up like a billy's horns. They appear like a goat, as goats often, in medievel times, represented the devil or things of evil. Goat burrs would qualify as evil.

Sand burrs on the other hand, are evil multiplied!! They have close to a dozen stickers in all direction, and look like a ship mine. They can stick you from all angles. And they can climb. Get one on your boot, here in a minute, it sticks to your other boot when walking, and then goes up to your laces. Next thing you know, it's stabbing you in the calf. It's evil twin is just above it in the bend of your leg, hiding until you squat to look at something, and their evil cousin is hidden just under you ace cheek, waiting on you to sit down to pull the other two out!!! Their whole family has gathered in your boot laces to watch the show, who you don't see until you get home and go to pull your boots off in the house. We get 'em knee high on years when it rains, and they are pure evil!! The get in the calves tails and in their legs, so when you grab one to flank it, you get a handful!!! Then you sit down on a whole clan of the evil boogers, and they attack in full force!! My personal favorite is the one that manages to get inside your chaps from God knows what evil place, and then you climb on your horse and smash it home!!! LOVE THOSE!!!!

In the pic, you can see the old goat burr top, right. It's worn and broke from stabbing everything in it's path. Below you can see the grass burrs, or Sand burrs. These are a little beaten from stabbing my hand inside the frame rails of this truck in my shop. The small thorn you see top, middle is one I pulled out of my hand last night. These were just the ones I found in the floor. You can imagine what the floorboards of this truck and inside the frame rail looks like... ... Grass burrs look like regular crab grass or bermuda grass initially, and can be hard to tell apart until they begin to form heads of evil. The cows really eat 'em hard in the spring until they begin to form heads. Then, the curse of man begins to be evident. They'll be everywhere. My second personal favorite are the ones that come off your jeans or boots and get trampled into the carpet. You only find those in the middle of the night when you get up to relieve yourself... ... ... #@$%!

Now that is funny!!! ... a little too much so because until 3 weeks ago, my pregnant wife and I and our year old daughter had been living in a camper full time.

Needless to say, out of money, newly wed and broke, wife without a job, a kid and another on the way, and trying to remodel a foreclosure house has left no money for the poor '06. It's been keeping the garage occupied for about 9 months now... hopefully for Christmas I'll get a new transmission :)

My wife and I stayed in it quite a bit when we first got married. She thought it was okay for a few days... . then, not so much. But we'd pack up the horses and go back to Denton Co or the HQ, so she got along with it pretty well. I don't think she's been in it since we had kids... ... . she says the kids haven't had tetanus shots.....

That Alaska highway is one ROUGH S. O. B!!!! Last time I went up, I couldn't run over 50-55 for dodging the small cars in the shell holes!! Looked like the 142nd had the 155 Howies out for a stroll!! And not just in one spot, either!! I saw an RV up there, and I don't think all of it was gonna make it!! I could see it shaking apart before I even got to it, and it was air ride!! I can see how the ball joints and guage cluster didn't make it!!

I started out broke and in a hole, so don't worry. As long as you work, you'll get out of the hole..... just don't dig any deeper. Work FORWARD and uphill... ... . throw the dirt in the hole behind you, so if you fall, you don't go back down!! :p At least YOU'VE got a good 1st gen to drive. I had a '78 Powerwagon with no A/C... ... good truck, but it was worn out when I got it!!
