Sorry guys, kind of long but I've made a lot of changes in the last couple of months. Started with a new OFE, PDR Twins, and a Pac Brake PRXB. Next came the RASP and a full Kelderman Air Ride. Now that I've had some time to evaluate each product I thought I would give my impressions. I'll break these up into separate threads to make questions and comments easier to follow.
Man, where do I start. I spent a lot of time asking question and talking to the members here. The information and feedback was spectacular, so many options. You guys know who you are and I can't thank you all enough.
I've been pounding on the PDR 40/3B now for a couple of months with the TST/VA stack and the performance has been excellent. Piers spent far more time than he should have talking with me and discussing my actual driving manners and needs. I think that what I ended up with is the best of both worlds all the way around! With my fueling combination and 6 speed the power comes on in a very linear fashion and what small amount of lag Piers warned me about isn't anything that I've ever noticed.
Below is a rough copy of the e-mail info that I have been sending members with questions...
"Incase you didn't already know, the PDR turbos have a few tricks done to them that I don't see others doing. The 3B is zero balanced, oiling improved, and has had a groove machined into the compressor housing to accept an O-ring. This seals the compressor housing lowering boost leaks and noise. The 40-16 is zero balanced with improved bearing and additional oiling grooves. The gate has been opened up as large as it will go (huge!) and they add a divider ring to keep the turbulent gasses from the turbine separated from the wastegate gasses being diverted to the 3B. I have attached a picture that show the monstrous gate and added divider ring below.
The hot pipe has been slotted to allow you to rotate the 3B for perfect exhaust alignment and to make lining up the lower support bracket a simple task. Jason at NW Customs puts a TON of hours into making sure that everything is smooth inside and that you can't see one single weld thru the powder coating. Not what I've seen from other kits. You even get a modified battery box to relocate you grid heater solenoids so that you don't have to find another one if you return to stock when you sell the truck.
If you decide to go with the PDR kit I would recommend getting the PDR Ported version of the ATS manifold. They open it up and polish the entire inside to improve flow. I took one look at a stock ATS manifold versus the PDR ported version and it was no contest. I think this has a lot to do with the temp drops also.
You can see in the photos below that I have cleaned up the wiring somewhat and added a matching silicone boost line. I also had a couple of Outerwears pre-filters made up for the AFE. However, I drove thru some NASTY weather (snow, rain, slush) coming home and stopped more than a few times along the way to check the filter. Not one single drop of water or slush on it. "
All I can say is WOW! I shouldn't have waited so long. Many thanks to the PDR crew for the attention to detail and the time they spent making sure I ended up with the right kit for my needs.
