My Mix

I run Mineral Spirits and Marvel Mystery Oil. Mix in a one gallon container: 96 oz. Mineral Spirits and 32 oz. Marvel Mystery Oil. Put in 12-18 oz. a tank according to fuel fill. Why, well, it is used in the Diesel Secret ingredients. I do not use the Diesel Secret. I had used MMO in my previous 01' H. O. and had 165,000 miles before totaling it. No VP issues.

2 stroke oil

I was using synthetic 2-stroke for a while... changed the injectors (170K), and they had quite a bit of carbon on them, but, I doubt it was from the 2-stroke oil. BTW; I installed Diesel Power Stage one injectors, and adjusted the valves... what a difference! (Plus notably better fuel consumption). Jonathan.

Here are the test results that SNOKING was referring to. If you notice the ratio used for TCW-3 was 200:1. Using 1 oz per gallon gives a ratio of 128:1. That`s the ratio I use.
My question is: Can it hurt anything?

Neat chart - I've always at LEAST used 1 quart of ashless, synthetic or semi-synthetic TC-3 2-stroke oil per tank in my truck, but prefer B10 biodiesel when I can get it.

My engine, either with, or without the addition of the oil, will most likely outlive me, so yeah, may well be just a 'warm and fuzzy feeling" thing, but the cost of the added oil in comparison to the fuel cost is pretty trivial, so worth the added cost to me - and since it, according to the chart, reduces wear by about a third - seems worthwhile with today's drier diesel fuel. But the Biodiesel is obviously King, where fuel lubricity reduction is concerned!

Here. all the Pumps at the Filling Stations are labeled: ,contains up to 7% bio-diesel. ' However, I still add around 100:1 synthetic 2 stroke oil when I fill up... Getting parts over here is a bit, um, "difficult"... and VP-44's are available, but cost over 5. 000 €... Jonathan

There's a guy here that i gave 250 gal. of used synthetic amsoil and he burns it in his 95 2500 with about 10% diesel is all, smokes some but he says it runs great, I didn't know you could burn synthetic oil in anything, He says he filters it and puts straight into his tank, I wouldn't do that to mine , anyway hope he don't ruin his engine, Monte

I run atf in my tractors and trucks have for years but nobody really cares what I think
The only problem i think i would have if i ran used motor oil in my truck would be messing up the injectors, they have a lot of pressure and if the oil was not clean , then you would take the risk of pitting them or worse, My cousin ran his ford 7. 3 off of transmission fluid for quite awhile, just had to start it on diesel then ran it straight off trans. fluid, If your tractor runs alright off of it , more power to you,
good luck, Monte

AFT has friction modifiers that are not good for injection pumps and injections. Talk about an old farmers tail!!!! or is that wives tail? Chris

I agree with snoking, If you want a great example of how ATF does NOT lubricate, put a tank of ATF in your chainsaw oiler and the thain will just seize up to the bar. I ruined a new chain up in the woods one day as I ran out of regular motor oil/ bar oil and had a bottle of ATF "should work I said" and poured it in and less that 1 min of sawing and the chain siezed up.

That said, I have had to use Amzoil 2 cycle Syn and also penzoil 2 cycle dino oil a couple of times in a pinch as chain lube with no issues. This would be my issue with using ATF as a suplemental lube additive to diesel fuel. In years past I have used Marvel Mystery Oil for oil and fuel additives and one thing I saw is that in my snowmobile with Marvel, the ounce or two to 6 gal of gas and I see a very light deposit of red film of oil at the end of the exhaust pipe/expansion chamber, this tells me that the Marvel is truly lubricating and for the most part comes out unburned as I can smell the Marvel on my finger when I wiipe it from the end of the exhaust pipe

i didnt know injection pumps or injectors had clutch packs inside them for the friction modifiers to act on wonder if thats why i felt my injection pump slipping the other day !

Not a fan of putting any used motor oil in my tank. Just tonight thou i started useing the 2-stroke oil. 1/2 a qrt to a full tank. Also added 8oz of the stanadyne too. Was only 5 miles home. Didnt really notice it quiet down yet.

Friction modifiers can change things in both directions, depending on the application! Those used for LS diff's decrease friction for cornering. Those in ATF increase friction to aid the clutch engagement. Putting ATF in a injection pump is like throwing sand in it, and is not adding more lubrication. No where in a transmission are there the tight clearances to exist in an IP.

ATF is also designed resist heat and not burn. 2 cycle oil is design to be burnt!

Anyone still using 2 stroke in their fuel to add lubrication?

J-

Every other tankful I add Super Tech TC-W3 which is ashless and made for all oil injection systems. The most important additive I use is 10oz. per 30 gallons of Amalgamated TDR-S concentrated Diesel Fuel additive every tank full. I also use this additive liberally. I've been using this combo and a Smarty Programmer in my 02 24 valve since the VP-44 was replaced and I installed the Glacier diesel Walbro GFS 392 Lift Pump on the inside of the frame below the driver's seat. Continues to run better than new with this setup and have had no problems at all running a constant 15-18 psi at the VP-44 depending on where the pedal is.
