Thanks. I spoke with Chip for a couple of minutes this morning. He did say to check the signal levels coming off the APPS, but I'm thinking it's about 99. 9997% chance the IP is toast... most likely the computer inside it. So, I guess I get to learn how to replace an injection pump. After 143,000 miles of just routine maintnenace, I guess I shouldn't complain.

Nope. The record I've seen in my shop is 212k on the original pump. Got it in this week, a friend's truck. Before that, it was 198k, and 187k. I've seen some quit at 87k, so 143k is good. And it's not that hard a thing to do. Cleanliness is the key, so wash it good, keep the lines and your hands clean, and everything will be "swell". ;)

And you've got the best resource available.....

At least it's summer, could be be February, 50 below zero and generally unpleasant. Thanks for all the help.

Off the subject, but since you seem to have it nailed down... what were you shooting at the range? Practice, qualifying, long range? Just curious.

Sorry for the long delay been busy with our exercise. I was getting a 600 yard zeros on a couple of my match rifles as a starting point for the long range matches (800-900-1000 yards). Finshed converting an XP-100 from a pistol to a long range gun. Seems to work... bullets go where I point the rifle. Now, to point to the rifle correctly.

I have a nice shiny Super X VP44 from Blue Chip Diesel waiting to be installed on Sunday. Have to shoot the mid-range (600 yard) match on Saturday after all.

Good news! I finished replacing the IP with the Blue Chip remanufactured unit. It started and runs just fine. Might even have a bit more power. Could be the wet pavement that allows a bit of slip when gunning it from stop that makes it seems like it has more power. For $2300 and a week of evenings, I'm going with it has more power.

I'm not a mechanic, never worked on a Diesel engine before. Followed everyon'e advise: keep everything clean and protected as possible, and read the repair shop manual. Blue chip includes a four page set of tips that are very worthwhile. Doubtless it saved me a bunch of time. . and I took enough as it is.

Thanks for the help!

Congratulations.

Satisfying doing things yourself and saving money at the same time.

Ditto!! See, I'm not that smart, I just get lucky putting it back together!!!:-laf

As for the XP-100, it's just a Remington 700. What caliber? Going to Camp Perry? Bullet, load, ammo? Barrel? Twist? I've got all day if you do!! NRA HPR Long Range High Master... . whatever that's worth.

Let's stop talking about HP rifle shooting. Have a PSL I have not been able to shoot for over 2 years, and a new scope I have not even sighted in. Nowhere around here to shoot over 200m let alone the 300m+ that I prefer (anything less than that is no fun).

HHhuntitall,

Actually the XP-100 is shorter than a SA 700 and has a solid bottom, but yes, it is darn near one-each Rem 700 ("Washer Gun" as I call it). I chambered a Krieger 1:8 6. 5mm barrel for 6. 5mm-284 Win, put a Jewell on it, and put the whole thing in a McGee prone stock, the first one Steve made for an XP. I'm just a puky little Master in Across the course. Shoots pretty good with Norma brass, Sierra 142 MK, 53. 5 gr. of IMR4831 and a federal 210M. So far, I've shot it only with the glass eyeball, a Leupold 8. 5-25 LR target using their Mk 4 rings. I've put about 130 rounds through it now... about time to build something else.

By the way, the truck is working really well. I still think it has MORE POWER (grunt, grunt).

Nice... one thing, you left out the barrel... . Barlien, Krieger, Broughton?

I've used the 40x actions many times, still have a couple. I've got one in 6. 5x284 right now with a Lilja Palma Barrel and McMillan F-class stock. It's running 54gr of H4831 with Fed 210M and 140 Bergers or Hornady's. I've got just a few more rounds down it than yours. Throat's getting so long the bullet barely seats in the case far enough to stay!!

Glad you got the truck up and going. It probably does have more power now, as the timing advance is back in operation and the injector pressure is back up. Always good for a few horses. You should see the fuel mileage come backup, too!!
