I thought that Intense Blue was discontinued. Did your dealer say anything about that? Maybe that's what is holding up your truck.

I got an "all driftwood" truck. I would recomend getting the dealer "pre-formed" mud flaps, then go out to PepBoys and get a set of LARGE plastic mudflaps (there just a precut sheet of plastic/rubber)and install them over the dealer ones. The dealer ones are nice but to small, you will get black tar all over the bottom 1/3 thats hell to clean off. The oversize additions stop 99% of the problem

Dealer called me up this morning and said a truck just showed up and it had my name on it. Kind of blew him away when I told him I would pick it up next weekend and no hurry on the prep. Still thinking of having linex sprayed on the lower third of each side like the two tone paint on other trucks since mine is straight driftwood. That would make it driftwood and black. Has anyone tried this?

I was in the dealership last night, and the 2500 quad cab was not even listed as avalable to be ordered on the computer the dealer uses to order trucks!

Ron R,

My 05/01/00 order was cancelled because of "materials shortage" and no one could tell me what that meant. My 06/02/00 order was simply cancelled because of the June Build-Out according to Dante at DC 800#. This is when (supposedly) all the DC order systems were set to reject new orders. My dealer knew nothing about all of this and kept trying to re-order.

jmbrowning,

I sure hope you are wrong about Intense Blue being disco'd... . that's the only color that looked RIGHT on the 2500 sport. #ad

JMBrowning... .

The Intense Blue is still available. Just not in the 3500. Too bad because that was the color I wanted. However I think that I will eventually two-tone with the Intense Blue.

See 3 strikes your out. Update: DC has allowed me a mear 4K miles for 6 months of mileage on a 3500 truck. They have told me that this is the "average" mileage on the 3500 series Cummins trucks that they sell.

Any mileage, over 4K, while they get around to replacing my truck, will be billed to me.

Do you guys really only drive your trucks 8K per year?

PS: looking for 2001 Cummins/6spd with 4K or less please call DC and let them know there is ONE. #ad

Good News:

My truck is at the dealer! 41 days from order until delivery. Even got to test drive the beast for about 4 miles and then... ... .

Bad News:

Wouldn't go into a gear - not one of the seven. There I was, stuck on the freeway offramp in a truck with 7 miles and all the plastic, floundering like a fool to get it into gear in rush hour traffic. It finally liked 5th gear and I was able to get it rolling enough to find 3rd. Poor sales guy thought I was joking.....

I guess we'll see what happens tomorrow at 1 p. m. when I pick it up.....

Well I am at day 79 and my truck is between Barstow and Mira Loma. It should be in Mira Loma at about 9:30AM this morning barring any delays that may have been caused by a train derailment in the area (Not the one with my truck). From there it is about 15 minutes to the dealer.

All this said, I figure that by the time I get all the funding in place and Mopar accessories installed, I will get it by next weekend.

Sold 99 auto last week, turned in order today for an 2001. 5 2500 QC 4x4 SLT LWB ETH/DEE white/agate leather with all the options. Fleet manager will place order as soon as ordering resumes. Unfortunately, sure grip is no longer available with the 3. 55 gear. I have a little time to decide on the 3. 55 w/o sure grip and the 4. 10 w/sure grip. I had the 3. 55 sure grip in the auto and liked that. I don't know if I would like the 4. 10's. Any opinions?

RAMAdmin -

I believe the derailment you are refering to was at Casa Grande. Its made that particular dispatching job hell the last 3 days. It was an intermodal train that derailed.

Kat,

I drove by that derail - it was pretty ugly. I was worried that my truck was on that train, but I believe it was coming from somewhere in California.

My truck went straight from the factory to the service bay - mechanic suspects the factory (St. Louis) put the clutch plates on backwards. Won't know unitl they look at it on Monday. I think I'll post a heads up for people execting an order over in the drivetrain forum.

I'm depressed enough that I'm taking the rest of the afternoon off to go fish all night.

Bill (regarding 3. 54 vs 4. 10):
I am riding the same boat you're in, waiting to get order accepted. Between 3. 54 and 4. 10 with the LSD I'm going with the 4. 10 LSD. Opinions? There are a ton out there. Check my post under Engines (2001. 5 3. 54 vs 4. 10 LSD). Lot's of feelings both ways, but not a whole lot of hard facts. I would say if you're thinking of oversize tires, lots of towing, off-roading, or you live in the mountains go 4. 10. If you drive empty, live on flat land, and use stock tire size, and drive over 75 MPH go 3. 54. In between? Figure what's important to you or flip a coin. Or change change gear$ to something like 3. 80 like the factory should offer in the first place. Its a big step between the available sizes (16%) so the decision is not easy. I live in the mountains, will be doing occasional towing (10,000# trailer), and plan to use 285/75-16 tires (about 4% difference from the 265's, 8% difference from 245's), and usually never drive over 75 MPH. With snow/ice in Utah I want the LSD. The 4. 10 LSD seems right for me.

Skl Bum, I live in the Seattle area and drive through Utah on the way to Albuquerque, NM about twice a year. Aboslutely beautiful country in your area. I think the 3. 54 would probably suite my needs as I do a lot of interstate driving and not a lot of towing. However, I am in the mountains and snow quite often as well. I'm sure dissappointed DC does not offer the 3. 54 sure grip anymore. I would actually prefer something in the range of 3. 73-3. 90 range like it appears that most people would like. I assume that is to logical for DC. Thanks for the reply.

Hey RAMAdmin Mike,

****** CONGRATULATIONS ******

I hope it shows up on time and is perfect in every way. In the meantime... . you 'could' just run up to the lake and soak for a while!

We used to keep an 18' Tri-Hull in the marina there.

Are you going to take delivery BEFORE they pull all the plastic wrap off or are you going to let them totally prep it? I've heard that some folks would rather discover ALL the warts before the dealer has a chance to add his own. #ad

Picked up my truck today and already put 210 miles on it. Used a little over a quarter tank. Very impressed so far. With the windows rolled up it's a little to quiet for me. Can barely hear the engine. Going to change that very soon I hope.

Well the salesman just called and said that the truck is on their lot. Although I am definitely going to look at it today, I probably will not pick it up until Friday. Need to shove as much into that down as possible. Waiting for the eagle to fly again.

Mick2500...

I think I will let the dealer do the honors. I am also having them add some accessories to it.

Kat...

The derailment I am talking about was in Colton, CA near San Bernardino. It is about 10 miles from the Mira Loma yard where they unload the cars/TRUCKS.

Can't wait... . Gettin' closer and closer... .

Finally got out to MI to pick up Ram this weekend. WaHooo! This rig screams!
(I've been without truck for 6 years... )
Steering is tight, shifting is very good: smooth through ALL the gears.
Truck was very well put together, y'all had me worried with the "St. Loose-screw" stories... Not here!
I can't say enough about this truck, In fact I'm not saying anymore: I'm going for a ride...
Waiters, keep waitin' It'll come. Orderers get your order in. It may be a while, but very worth it.
Thanks for all the help guys, I'm graduated!

Well I picked up the PO for the truck from the dealership (Frahm) last night. I have to say that I have been very impressed with the dealership and the Fleet Manager so far. Unfortunately I did not see the truck while I was there because it was not. Turns out that they do the PDI on a different (non-disclosed) site. I talked with the Fleet Manager about the process they use for their PDI and explained some of the problems that have been encountered by memebers of this site. He assured me that they take their 5* rating seriously and have a mechanic go over everything. We'll see... .

Pick it up this Friday afternoon.

Mike
