I have manuel tow mirrors and want to swap out to power mirrors. I do have the wire harness behind the door panel. i know ill have to buy the selector knob from dodge. I dont care so much about the heat function i just want power mirrors. Is this possible on my 02?? dodge parts department said its not. If so can some1 point me in the right direction..... please!!!!!!!!! ive heard kool-vue is the website to go with.

Amazon

Go to amazon.com. I have found a set of factory tow mirrors and the reinforcement bracket and am planning to maybe buy them in the future. If I do not get those, then I will get the ones Geno's sells. I do not remember the name that Geno's sells but they have a 9 or 10" viewing window when backing up.

APulpan,

The harness and control knob will work. I did this for my 2002 the hardway... I swapped the powered mirrors off of a 2003 (my wife didn't like the towing mirrors) with the bases of my 2002. I bought the control knob and a new HVAC control with the heated mirror switch (i wanted the heated mirrors too). All looks/works like factory. I don't like the non-OEM powered/heated mirrors... some of them look like Ford towing mirrors. Anyway, back when I did it, there wasn't a factory looking option, it took a set of 2nd gen and 3rd gen powered mirrors, and about 8 hours of work.

Hope this helps.

I have the Kool-Vue power/heated tow mirrors. Look and function is just like the OEM. The only issue is the mirror switch does contact the left mirror's mounting stud causing the door panel to protrude a little. A little neuro-surgical "hack-sawery" fixed that problem. I am pleased with them. Some people say they notice "a vibration", but my old "fuzzy" eyes don't seem to notice it enough to comment on. Heck, anything attached to a Cummins has the propensity to vibrate, doesn't it?. Besides, I don't use the mirrors to read the fine print of the trailing vehicle's make and model tags; I just want to insure I don't violate any physics "space occupation" laws.

Im so glad for this site. Yall have helped me out with clarifying this project. I appreciate all the info that i have read, it will be so helpful..... :)

As Wiredawg said, you'll have to swap the new mirror arms/heads onto your original bases. Do a search - there are threads here on the TDR that walk you through it. One thing, though - when a bunch of us were doing this about 8 years ago, we were using new OEM '03 mirrors for the swap. I seem to remember that a few years later there was talk that something changed with the tow mirrors that were coming out, and those newer ones didn't work for this mod.

Here's a link to one of the old threads: https://www.turbodieselregister.com...ap-click-here&highlight=power+tow+mirror+swap

WireDawg,

So i go to dealership to get a price on the control knob part # 56021311 and they said it was discontinued. Is this the right part # that they gave me. Also i asked, if i did had the power mirrors and need to replace the control knob where would i get 1 and he thought oriellys carries it. where did you get you control knob bud??? Also the A/C controls that have the heated mirror button, its kinda pricey @ 454. 48 does that sound right??? Does any1 else have any kind of advice. If i cant get a new 1 my next option is a junk yard and i hate chasing junk yards around to find my parts and im always skeptical about them anyway.

thanks for any pointers

APulpan,

Wow, I did this back in Mar 2003 after we bought my wife's 2003. I don't remember part #s, but cost for HVAC control was about $180 as I recall. I bought the toggle switch and the knob separately as well as the mirror heater switch. I'm not sure waht advice to give you about finding these parts except maybe try places like Mopar Parts For Less and places like that. If you decide to do this, you will need a lot of patience to separate the mirror arms from the mounts without breaking and getting the spring resistance fastener back on the hybrid assembly to avoid mirrors vibrating when driving. Mine vibrate some. Worst case, try the juckyard for a truck that the interior is intact and hasn't been exposed to the elements.

Let us knwo what you decide and how it turns out.

This is the one I got of ebay. The one you listed looks like it might work. Either way, he is still going to need the knob and the locknut.

So its been awhile since this post was started and I still haven't done the swap but I finally got to where I can purchase them and install them. My question now is, will I need a relay, fuse etc. for the power function of the mirrors. Im pretty sure that I will need those components for the heat function. I just recently changed my heater and evap core in which the whole dash had to be removed and torn apart. When I did this I discovered that my dash harness is not wired for the heat function to where it plugs into the HVAC control. So with that said, can I some how wire a switch and all the necessary components to the mirrors to get heat. Has someone had to wire their own switch to get heater function.

thanks

As far as putting the mirrors on, with the control switch, all you need to do is plug and play.... plug the switch in on the driver side behind the door panel, and plug the mirror in next to it, then on the passenger side.... That gives you power adjustment, but for the heater to use the factory wire loom, you'll have to have the switch in the AC controls.... TO make that work with an external/aftermarket switch, I'm not sure how to do that. I'm sure the wires are run to the AC control module, and out from there to the mirrors, but making them work together..... You'll have to find out with wires they are to start with.... the aftermarket mirrors are available with/without heat options for the 2nd gens from various mfgs.... Don't forget the support brackets!!

Just get some good quality mirrors not the cheapest pieces of crap eBay sells I had to disable the breakaway feature on my mirrors with black tape to make them steady enough I could see out of them at anything above a dead stop .
