The new engine, which makes 345 hp and 365 lb. -ft of torque, replaces the 5. 9-liter, 245 hp V8 that currently sits under the hood of Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups. An 5. 9-liter common-rail injection Cummins Turbo Diesel inline-six, churning 305 horses and 555 lb. -ft of torque will also be available under the Heavy Duty’s hood. Dodge estimates that 75 percent of its 2500 and 3500 pickups will be powered by a diesel and 70 percent will be four-wheel drive.

The company says that it has improved the Heavy Duty’s steering ratio to the point that it is now the quickest in the industry at 13. 4:1. Four-wheel drive trucks have been engineered with a recirculating ball system designed to improve the on-center steering feel through lower internal friction and a more precise response. The four-wheel drive’s front axle is newly designed and front suspension is a refined version of the five-link, coil-spring suspension with beam axle on the current model.

Dodge is touting a number of safety firsts for the heavy duty pickup sector coming in 2003 from 2500 and 3500 pickups, including side curtain airbags, pre-tensioning, constant force seatbelt retractors, largest standard brakes, wheels and tires in the class.

Rick Aneiros, Ram design team leader, says that when it came to redesigning the pickup’s exterior, “we didn’t feel it was necessary to stray from the bold Ram design. ” Aneiros says the “massive horse-collar grille” remains the vehicle’s most prominent feature. While the 2500 and 3500 designs are unique unto themselves, neither strays very far from the redesigned 1500 which hit the streets last fall.

The new 2003 2500/3500 will be on introduced at the Chicago Auto Show. If you check on the Chicago Auto show web site:

http://www.chicagoautoshow.com/

Click on "Live Cam" and then "Camera # 1" and you can see the Dodge display. There is a close up feature to see up close.

They removed the covers from the trucks this afternoon.

Here is another look at the 3500!

http://www.pickuptruck.com/html/autoshows/chicago2002/dodge/dodgehd1.html

From the looks of it, the back door is larger than the 1500 series, but I would have to see one side by side, and in person to really tell. Dodge is still calling it a quad cab, which doesn't sound good.

The official Dodge website has pictures and some info too! www.4adodge.com

It also says the Cummins will have high pressure common rail injection. Stats are 555 ft lbs at 1400 rpm and 305 HP at 2900 rpm. A GVWR of 12,000 lbs and a maximum available GCWR of 23,000 lbs!!

:--)

Dodge's website confirms a "new rear axle" and a solid axle up front (woohoo!) Looks like Dana got the boot.

Also, they indicate they will offer a 3500 SINGLE REAR WHEEL option!

Looks like the 1500. Well, it is technically better than the quad cab, at least it is improved. ALthough, the interior shot looks quite roomy to me, is this the way the 1500 looks?

Looks Good

I really like it but don't think I'll be trading my paidoff 99 for it anytime soon. ;) I have sat in a new 1500 quadcab and the back has a lot more room than my 99 quadcab. I think it is a nice balance between the to goddy looking crew cabs:confused: and the smaller quadcabs. I think DC did agood job on the redisign and would be poud to own one. :D Maybe I'll get lucky and they'll read this and send me a new one for testing. :-laf :-laf :-laf I sware I'll be really careful with it. ;)

It looks like those front seats are all the way forward. Same as the quad cab, MONDO BUMMER!!!!! Those idiots at DC are really PI$$ING me off. Oh well. Life goes on, with less money going to Dodge and their incompitent execs. :{

I just got back from the auto show. The press intro of the new trucks was today. Keep an eye on the site tomorrow for an article from me on the new trucks, tons of pictures (with up close detailed shots of the engine cut-away), answers to questions that noone other than a mad BOMB'ER would think to ask :D (stumped the engineers on some of them so I'll have to update it next week when they get back to the office and look stuff up), etc. We'll also be opening a new forum for the new trucks tomorrow as well.

You're Da Man

"Bowing and Chanting"

We're not worthy, We're not worthy, We're not worthy:-laf :-laf :-laf :-laf :D

Looking forward to the info Steive. :p

Thanks

Thanks-No Thanks!

That is NOT a 4-door truck!!! That is an extended cab without suicide rears. Am happy to hear about common rail and the GVWs... still waiting for DC to actually IMPROVE on my truck... so far, all they've offered is different, not better.

Steve!,, hehe,, Way to go

I bet that guy was  Thinking,, "Where'd this guy come from?", LOL

I think that 3500 looks wayyy better than the 1500,, I'll have to convince my Dad to trade in his '01 Chevy D/A for the '03 Dodge QC (aka 4-door)

Anybody see how the turbo is mounted to the Restyled exhaust manifold. (Boy that new manifold looks restrictive)

I'll have to say this,, the new '03 QC (4-doors) ARE bigger than the currect QC,, BUT they are not "Texas sized".

Can't wait to hear Steve's "Mad Bomber" questions and answers, LOL
