Help on Purchase of 03????

I recently purchased a 2003 Quad cab sport 4x4. The exhaust is to quiet so I went the cheap route and purchased a genos garage muffler eliminator pipe. I like how it sounds at idle but, when I get on it one its too loud and two its not a clean sound. I have looked at the turbine exhaust from diesel power products, but would like more advice. Thanks Frank

Frank,

I have the Aeroturbine with 4" tube from turbo to tail pipe. For the most part it sounds real good and it really helps with the EGT if that is a concern to you. BUT! It has a really loud "honk" or "bark" at 1900-2000 rpm, and the higher the gear the longer the duration. I would be extremely pleased with this system if I could eliminate the honk.

THANKS FOR THE TIP IT SOUNDS LIKE THE AEROTURBINE MIGHT PRODUCE A SIMILAR SOUND AT HIGH RPMs LIKE THE MUFFLER ELIMINATOR PIPE I HAVE CURRENTLY.

We have been very successful with our Spiral Flow muffler as far as toning the volume down and eliminating the "ricer" sound folks don't like. But be aware the sound volume is louder than what you might have experienced on a 24 valve etc...

Toned the volume down,... but beware the sound volume is louder than what you might expect?? But your DPP website indicates that you muffler keeps the sound in the cab to within 3 decibels of the stock muffler. I am not trying to nit pick, but is it loud or not? Does it sound good or is it teenage obnoxious? Since it will be hard to describe the sound or range of sound on a good to obnoxious scale without a frame of reference, let's try this.

I am familiar with two and three chamber flowmaster mufflers (the 50 and 60 series respectively) on gas engined vehicles. When you romp on a two chamber it is real loud, and very noticeable at other times. Whereas the three chamber muffler is quiet at idle and authoritative but not overly loud when romped on. I personally like the authoritative but not obnoxious sound of the three camber.

Where does the DPP system fit in your opinion? Thanks for your help, I am trying to pick out an exhaust system and it is damn difficult without having the exhaust manufacturer come by give you a ride and let you listen to the installed product, before purchase!!!:)

Are you talking about DPP's Aeroturbine or DDPI's spiral muffler?

I have DDP's Aeroturbine. At first I did just a 4" muffler and the exhaust quality was trashy. Then I did the Aeroturbine without muffler. Sounded awesome but too loud. So I put the muffler back in with the Aeroturbine and now it sounds good and is acceptibly quiet although it does have a bit of drone 2000-2300 RPM. Dave at DPP suggested a resonator exhaust tip to eliminate all drone which I'm thinking about.

I was asking about the 4 inch, turbo back DPPI kit with the spiral muffler. Sorry, I did not realize the Aeroturbine was DPP's product and that I left out the "I" in my previous question.

Areoturbine

Love my Areoturbine. Running 4" from the turbo back. Wanna get rid of that bark and clean up the sound even more? Move the Areoturbine from the stock muffler location to the bottom of the downpipe. Did it, love it, sounds increadable. Very civil inside, even at 75mph! Towing at 65 it's quiet inside. Outside it's loud, but a hell of a lot quiter than straight piped. I have a freind with a straight pipe and he is saving for the Areoturbine.

You might try the Walker 21470 in 3. 5" inlet and outlet, perforated core pipe, no baffles or louvers. I expect 5" would be noisy and have a lot of drone at around 1800-2100 rpm depending on how far back the muffler is placed.

I like my 4" system from Jerry Jardine it uses the stock tail pipe w/new down pipe and mid pipes w/magnaflow muff. It fit good sounds great (not too loud) and was $300 +20 for shipping.

Mark,

Thank you for the reply. One last question, any "drone" issues you have heard from customers with your spiral muffler system? If so, what are the fixes? Thank you, for your reply.
