2005 Stereo Help

Well, I HAVE searched/read all of the forums that I can, and for the life of me I still cannot figure out how to add an ipod to the oem stero in my truck WITHOUT using an FM transmit OR replacing the oem with an aftermarket stereo. SOOOOOO... .



Here is a pic of the oem stereo in my truck front and back. It is an RBK style, single disc changer, with NO steering wheel controls, NO uconnect, NO aux. input, or NO Infinity amp/speakers.

NOTICE that the radio bezel, shape is rounded... . It is part#P05091506AC



I am positive that I cannot replace it with an REF style with the aux input on the face of the unit, but will an RAQ work???



I thought that this will work--

BUT then noticed that they say it will NOT work with an RBK.





I thought this might work, but then it needs an aux input on the stereo.

I'll call them tommorrow, but in the meantime, can some of you audio gurus out there let me know what you have learned about iPod and/or Bluetooth phones and an oem RBK stereo.



One last question, which model oem stereo, might be considered an upgrade to the RBK, but still work in my 2005. I am asking, because soemeone GAVE me the RAQ 6cd changer, but I NOW have no idea whether it will work or not and it seems to have no aux input. I am not at all unhappy with my RBK, but simply want to hook up an ipod WITHOUT an FM Transmitter.

You will have no better luck with the RBQ. I think the only answer is a new unit. I have the RBQ and use the FM transmitter. Dont waste your money on the Fm transmitter.

I looked at that e-bay link. As far as the RBQ unit it said what I have been seeing since 2005 not compatable with RBQ. The buy now price on that item is 129. 99 A new after market unit would not be much more than 129.

I was too busy today to call the guys at Integration Solutions to see if their unit will work with an RBK. I'll try again tomorrow.

Seafish - I have the RBK radio also. Here's how I hooked up my ipod. I ended up using my old aftermarket XM radio interface. I just hooked up the aftermarket ipod RCA's to it, pressed the mode buttom and there it was. I'm not able to control the iPod from the radio and you have to have the volume up all the way to get some decent sound, but it works better than the FM transmitter. Comes through very clear. I'm still figuring out how to boost the signal. If I come with something then I'll be sure to tell you. Hope this helps. Brian.

BLuffe, I don't have xm or sirius in my truck; Where does the xm radio adapter plug into?? What brand adapter do you have?? Thanks.

Really limiting yourself here. If you can remove your radio to take a picture of it for this post, you can easily replace it with a far superior aftermarket receiver that is iPod ready.

I have the RBQ radio and I have both an IPOD and XM connected. Neither are using an FM transmitter. I use the following interfaces



1. Axxess XIA-D01 (module) and XIAH-IPC (cable) to connect my iPod to my factory radio using factory controls.



2. Terk XMDirect tuner to "confuse" my factory radio. The factory radio is configured for Sirius



3. Axxess XIAH-XMC to connect my XM to my XIA-D01.





The problem I'm having now is that my XIA-D01 does not recognize an iPhone. I'll need to research that one. Maybe Axxess has a firmware upgrade available that will fix it.

C. Fish, my XM connects to the 10 pin connecter. the first link you have to logjam shows this. I think I bought my XM through them ,but I cant recall. I do recall them saying that the XM was not compatible with the RBK raido, But I tried it anyways and it worked just fine. I think if you were to buy the i-pod unit from logjam it would work for you.

rb1 good option

I checked to see about an ipod connection for my rb1. It will control an ipod and show song info on screen it also shows song info for sirus and xm. Nav is a plus also. It will fit in stock location and looks good too. I have been talking to a guy that is working on making the startup screen a cummins c logo.

I am not at all sure that an RB1 will work in a 2005; There was a change to CAN control of truck electronics from 2006 onward. The 2005 still has the older control electronics. Plus, while I would love to have sat radio and ipod input, I do not really want a Nav screen. Is there a version of the RB1 that has no Nav screen??

Brian, so far yours seems to be the only working solution to hooking up an iPod to an RBK, but does it work at a decent volume?? Right now sometimes I like to listen to my oem RBK stereo, with no premium speakers, at a volume of 32-36. After 36, distortion happens, and 32-36 is plenty loud for me. Can you tell me if the way your adapter works you still get a volume of about 32?? TIA

The RBQ has an aux. input on the front panel, doesn't it??

The RBK does NOT have an aux input.

Your probably right!!But I LIKE the stock look and simple function of the oem stereo , and I for he most part DON"T like all the sliders and buttons on decent quality aftermarket stereos. If I could find a high quality, simple looking head unit, I would probably go for it. I should probably call Crutchfields pretty soon, but I was also hoping for a quick fix, which it seems may have been a pipe dream.



STILL, THANKS for all of the input, and PLEASE DO continue to make suggestions for this problem; I almost think that 2005 truck owners are in a uniques situation regarding aux inputs for the oem radio, at least the RBK. #@$%!

I had an RBK in my '05. In '06 I replaced it with an RBQ, because I wanted the 6-CD option and to see what the heck Sirius station I was looking at... the RBK only gives you the station number, the RBQ gives you the name too.



When I sold my '05 in late '06, I took the RBQ out and put the RBK back in. If anyone needs a like-new unit to experiment with, PM me for a price; it'll be cheaper than going to Dodge. The only reason I've kept the RBQ this long is just in case I get another '03-'05. The RBQ is still in the original packaging.

The rb1 is for 03-05 pickups. The screen is not a big one and looks good and will install without changing anything on your pickup. The thing i like about it is all the for sirius is on the same screen without scrolling to see it. The ipod info is the same way.

Actually, that looks like a nice unit, and the screen is not at all big, but how does the iPod hookup??

C. Fish, I dont think you would like my set up. I listen to my radio at about a volume of 19, this is loud for me. With the ipod going I have to turn the volume all the way up to 38. At 38 the sound from the ipod is about 17. So that you know I am using a TERK XM DIRECT smart digital adapter .
